I must admit that I haven’t been up to snuff with the latest music from Pain Of Salvation and even sadly missed their appearances on our side of the pond based on a crazy schedule at the time. That said I was really excited to hear the first bit of their forthcoming album “In The Passing Light Of Day” on InsideOut Music with the track entitled “Meaningless” and offer up some insight on the tune. Here we go.

The melody is very ethereal at the onset and when the drums come in there is a heavy sense of drama to the tune. The vocal line comes in to a slower vibe as Gildenlow pleads with what appears to be a lost loved one. The chorus is strong on its own but with the added higher vocal register of Ragnar Zolberg the level of drama is upgraded. I found myself lost in the tune and listened to it a handful of times before penning these quick thoughts. According to the press, this will be a very personal release for POS and Gildenlow who not too long ago was dealing with great illness. Fans of Progressive Metal on the whole will likely find a tremendous album with this one. I cannot wait to hear the rest.
