“X” was the most recent album by the Helsinki Vampires known as The 69 Eyes and if you didn’t give it a chance for some reason, you now have a reason to take a listen thanks to this new tasty digital single “Love Runs Away”. This release begins with the opening track from the “X” album (which is the bands 10th in case you were wondering) and I love this tune since it’s a solid, four on the floor rocker that calls back to an earlier time in the bands history while still looking into their future.
The interesting thing about this release comes care of the second track “Dracula’s Castle” as this one is not available anywhere else. This one is heavy on the melancholy with Jyrki’s somber register but the riffs come across as a blend between Rockabilly and a classic 1950’s twang. I found it interesting for sure and a bit fun as well. The ardent fans are going to want this one for sure in their audio collection of the bands work.
Closing up this maxi-single is the albums bonus track “Rosary Blue” which is an atmospheric duet between tattoo goddess supreme Kat Von D. and the enigmatic Jyrki 69. Depending on where you got your copy of “X” you might have the track but if you do not, this single set is well worth the reasonable stipend to get it. Kat sure has a lovely voice and I hope that if this album finds the band touring these parts that she comes along to some markets to perform it live with them. I cannot see them bypassing this one.
I also loved the albums cover art as it bears an almost Batman vibe but perhaps that was their intent. Order this one now before the sun comes up. Feel the darkness one more time.
