In a couple of weeks, I will be catching this brand new band to my ears called the Black Veil Brides for their gig at the Gramercy Theatre. Having worked with the bands publicity people before, I am trusting their recommendation on this group and I must admit that I like the look of them since it’s a call back to the big eighties when Metal bands all looked like something. With no copy of the current album to warm me up I decided to poke around for a single and will be offering up thoughts about their own first called “Knives And Pens”. Research shows the song was released over a year ago but the one I am listening to is a re-recording for the most recent album “We Stitch These Wounds”. Let’s go.

The song starts off pretty nicely and brings you right in with some tight guitar and galloping drumming. The guitarists are Jinxx and Jake Pitts while the drumming is adeptly handled by Sandra Alvarenga. Lead singer Andy Sixx sings in both a melodic register along with a Metalcore growling one. I’m not sure if there is an actual connection to the more famous Nikki or if the “Sixx” being used by Mr. Biersack is just an homage. When these elements are wrapped together we get a solid tune and one with a very catchy chorus. So catchy did I find this that I was singing along after a single listen and while I don’t want to cite this as my very favorite track since it’s the only one I know now, it is one that I am looking forward to hearing at the gig at the end of the month. I’m going to add a summary to our content base for the song “Perfect Weapon” and load that one into the site in the coming days. Stay tuned.
