In a few short months, the world will get their full dose of the latest opus by Norway’s Symphonic Black Metal titans in Dimmu Borgir with their album “Eonian” which will come out on their longtime label Nuclear Blast Records. The band recently offered up a single with “Interdimensional Summit” and I fired up the Spotify app on my laptop to give it a listen. One had to wonder just how the band would reintroduce themselves after so long an absence from recorded work. Right at the onset, the band showcases that orchestrated majesty that many of us have come to love about them with flourishing keyboards leaving us into the crushing riffs.

Shagrath’s all-too familiar growl comes in shortly after the intro and he is as intent in purpose as expected. Lyrically the song speaks of a very mystical topic with seers and time-travel and control and the like. For me it worked, and I loved the group’s chorus for this one since it’s a larger ensemble singing it and the flow of the quick paced double bass drumming just made this part work for me quite a bit. Overall, I felt that this was a solid track to debut for the fans because let’s face it, the absence has been long and there are likely many fans who have only ever heard them on Spotify or YouTube based on age.

One must assume that live dates will shortly follow the release of “Eonian” and I will be keeping an eye out for those to post under our “Tours and Festivals” section on the website. Stay tuned and welcome back to regular activity Dimmu Borgir.
