It’s looking like there is another few months of waiting until KISS’ upcoming album “Monster” is released but in advance celebration, we can not only toast America’s Independence Day but the lead single “Hell Or Hallelujah” which was delivered a few days before this writing and just before the Fourth Of July holiday. Unlike “Sonic Boom”, this new album track comes directly from the Universal Music label and I’ve composed some quick thoughts about it since that’s what we’re supposed to do here. Let’s go.
Right off the bat this tune brought me back to a vibe that I felt with the bands classic released like “Love Gun” or even “Rock and Roll Over” and that was a very good thing. This one was much heavier than I anticipated and drives it home right out of the gate. Paul is sounding solid on the vocal as he calls the rest of the team for the choruses and its catchy enough to sing along pretty much after the second listen. Musically speaking the guitars are sharp and the drums pound away like their supposed to. Thayer’s lead break is a commendable one and while some of the bands diehards will still refute his role, this is how it goes for the duration. I liked it a lot and think that if “Monster” maintains a drive like this single denotes that we will have a very fun and well-received album. That’s all I have to say until we get the full on.
