The latest Spider-Man film, appropriately titled “Amazing Spider-Man 2” does NOT come out care of Marvel Studios but is instead under the mindful eye of the Sony studios and if you enjoyed the first film (which I did to an extent) then fans should be ecstatic about the sequel coming out this summer. Hasbro Toys will be bringing this film to peoples collections with their “Spider-Man Legends Infinite Series” and as I did with my last couple of posts about these figures, I culled together the provided press images and talked a little about the figures. You’ll get to see what amounts to this whole first wave in its packaging. Let’s get started with one of Spider-Man’s most classic of villains – The Beetle.
Here’s Miss Felecia Hardy or as you know her, The Black Cat. She looks super sexy so younger buys might have to be getting parents permission to purchase this one and she comes with a whip and as you see one of the many parts of the Green Goblin figure which I will address later on.
What do you get when you add Spider-Man type powers to an alien symbiote? Well you get Venom but what do you get when an offspring from Venom merges with an insane serial killer? You get nothing less than Carnage and this super-villain has made for some exciting, and in a sense frightening tales across the Amazing Spider-Man mythos. I would have loved to see him in the new film but we are getting Electro as the villain and I have also read that we shall see Rhino so let’s see what happens. This figure is awesome looking and is making my birthday wish list. That is in May in case any of you are wondering 🙂
“Electro” will be the primary antagonist in Amazing Spider-Man 2 and is played by Jamie Fox. Clearly they redesigned the character for the film and I will admit that I do not like what I see in him. This is not a Hasbro reflection of course since the figure looks cool and has these electric “bolts” as well. I guess I had hoped for more of the classic design for the villain even though as I think of it the giant electric star on his head kind of looked stupid. You’ll definitely need this figure should you plan on battling it out with Spidey.
Here’s the movie version of Spider-Man and I am cool with this. They changed the outfit up a bit and this is reflected superbly with the Hasbro figure.
Did you know that Peter Parker died in the comics for a couple of years? Yeah he did and the powers and great responsibility were taken over by Doctor Octopus who started calling himself The Superior Spider-Man. Now he gets his own action figure and it looks amaze.
We saw with the released “Captain America The Winter Soldier” line that how you could build figure and this series offers up a similar premise. This time around you can build a monster version of the Green Goblin and while this figure looks awesome it seems to be more of a cross between The Hulk and The Abomination. Of course I am very guilty of being a purest when it comes to the visage of The Green Goblin.
PiercingMetal Thoughts: Definitely a nice assortment in this set that covers a bit of ground. You get the classic villain with The Beetle along with the wonderful Black Cat along with the surprise of The Superior Spider-Man (which was Doctor Octopus in Parkers powerful body in a storyline that ran for a couple of years). I love the film version of Spidey but not the newfangled Electro that we are getting and its without question that the Carnage being delivered in this series is boss. I will likely buy that one first unless one of you wonderful, awesome and kind readers want to buy him for me (hint, hint). I’ll return in a few more weeks with more of these 2014 offerings from Hasbro.
