GHOST SHIP OCTAVIUS is a progressive metal band formed in 2014 by lead guitarist Matt Wicklund (God Forbid, HIMSA, Warrel Dane), drummer Van Williams (Nevermore, Ashes of Ares, Pure Sweet Hell) and vocalist Ad?n Fanion. The band’s sound features technical, atmospheric and groove metal elements, highlighted by Ad?n’s powerful clean vocals, Van’s tasteful rhythms and Matt’s melodic and intricate guitar solos.

In April of 2014, the trio launched a Kickstarter campaign and successfully raised over $17,000 from anticipating backers for their debut album. After the campaign, the band fine-tuned their sound with the help of Producer Aaron Smith of Envisage Audio (Jeff Loomis’ Plains of Oblivion) and have come out the other end with 11 stunning tracks that are rich with a unique blend of melody, texture, atmosphere and groove. The group asked bassist Dagna Silesia (Nevermore touring bassist) to lay down some bass tracks for the record and to join them for live shows when the time comes to hit the stage.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: I caught the band a few short months ago and was blown away by the powerful and often dramatic presentation that I received in the crowd. The tunes are solid and worthy of a listen and their live set will find you rallying behind a talented group that is setting its sights on the building of Metals future. If you consider yourself a Metalhead who looks beyond the greats that came before in order to keep our music vibrant, then Ghost Ship Octavius is one of the bands that you should be investigating. What do you readers think about this group if you have heard them and this upcoming brief tour. Let me know in the comments section below.
