A few days ago this press release came across the computer screen at the PiercingMetal Command HQ and I apologize for the delay in sharing it with you. I’m still getting used to having both of the website parts in one space and feeding your sensors with coolness but here we go. Apparently the Finnish Cello sensations of Apocalyptica have signed to the Eleven Seven Music Group. Check out the full skinny and I’ll return with some additional thoughts at the close.
The Press Release:
New York, NY – Eleven Seven Music Group is proud to announce the signing of Finnish rockers Apocalyptica in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East and South East Asia. “Successful artists are about talent that differentiates them from the rest of the pack. Apocalyptica have consistently proven that they have their own unique niche,” says CEO Allen Kovac.
Apocalyptica is a Finnish cello-rock band from Helsinki, formed in 1993. The band is composed of classically trained cellists Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen, Perttu Kivilaakso and drummer Mikko Sirén. Their music borrows elements from a wide variety of genres including classical music, metal, world, folk and progressive rock. They have sold over four million albums to date. The band’s recent albums included both instrumentals and collaborations with various singers, such as Corey Taylor, Adam Gontier and Cristina Scabbia. Apocalyptica have recently recruited an official vocalist, Franky Perez, who was part of Scars on Broadway, Pusher Jones and appeared on Slash’s first solo record…
The band was thrilled to sign their deal with Eleven Seven Music Group “A lot of bands we really like or we are friends with are signed with Eleven Seven. After our previous record deals with major record companies, we were aiming for a label-home where we know the people and can rely on working with them for at least the period of an album cycle. Having Allen with us gives us this confidence, paired with a great team full of passion and ideas for what we do. We are excited being part of this!”
Apocalyptica will release their Eleven Seven Music debut in April 2015. Their prior efforts were critically acclaimed. Billboard Magazine says of the band “Apocalyptica continues to impress with its unique ability to meld classical with metal.”
PiercingMetal Thoughts: I’ve greatly enjoyed what Apocalyptica is all about since I first heard them playing Metallica covers on the Internet before the days of Spotify and various other streaming methods. They were super interesting and gave you a new way of hearing heavy music. At the time I was seriously investigating a lot of Finnish players and from moment one I knew they belonged in my own music library as well. The bands collaborations with other singers is very interesting to listen to as it really makes some of their material shine all the more brightly and that is always a good thing. I hope that Eleven Seven Music as a label is the proper home for them and that we keep finding the band releasing new and exciting music and tours for years to come. I’ve caught them in concert several times now and cannot recommend it enough. So what do you readers think of this little bit of music industry news? Let me know down in the comments as I always love to hear from you on this sort of stuff. Now if you will excuse me, I have a Halloween photo to prepare for 🙂
