Welcome back my friends, you have safely arrived at the second chapter of my Five Points Festival coverage. The event happened just this past weekend at Pier 36 down on the Lower East Side. I’ll be chiming in every now and again as I see fit and let’s begin with this awesome drawing of the late great David Bowie.
These hip cats were all sorts of awesome with their artwork that featured all sorts of music and monster weirdness. Gotta love Franken Bowie and Papa Emeritus III.
There were so many designer toys on display and this is a completely new area for me which means I don’t have a clue about the hobby. A lot of the figures we are presenting here are limited editions by popular artists and were on sale for hundreds and hundreds of dollars. By the end of my day here a few vendors said that everything they had brought was sold out so the Sunday session was just going to be a hangout time. That blew my mind for sure.
This is Peter Skullkid and he and I began talking once I saw all the creepy stuff that he had created along with the Type O Negative patch. With TON being one of my favorite bands we just started a chat. Loved all of his skull and monster stuff.
The fine folks of DC Collectibles were here and if you’ve read any of our Toy Fair coverage over the years you probably know that we love their line of action figures and statues. They were at Five Points Festival to showcase a new designer line of stuff. Let’s take a look shall we?
Now back onto the rest of the designer items we chanced upon.
You might be saying to yourself, gee what kind of a convention is this anyway because I don’t see any Cosplayers. This charming lass was probably one of the first and only such people I chanced upon at the event. When I go to NYCC I run into Harley Quinns and Deadpools at every turn of my head but that would not be the case at Five Points.
This gent was a part of Sidekick Lab and they make trading cards. They had an old fashioned printing press on display and were showcasing it.
When I go to Toy Fair, I’ve tried to expand my coverage horizons by focusing on booths like Folkmanis, Ty and other creators of plush or puppet type stuff. We just loved the coolness that was being showcased by House Darkly today and had to let you see a few of the items since they were all so awesome.
That’s going to bring me to the end of Chapter Two. Don’t worry, I have at least two more installments for you to enjoy so please stay tuned. I will return tomorrow with another chapter until I run out of pictures so be sure to hit our Official Instagram and give it a “Follow” and some likes to the images. All of the ones on the profile are different from what you see here and we just love using Instagram. It’s also a nice idea to click through on some of the websites linked below for the people who were featured in this post.
