I never thought that I would thank the likes of a Social Network such as Google+ in finding out about a band and I realize that this might sound strange to you conventional music fans who do this all the time. The reason is simply based on when you are an active reviewer of the scene’s provisions you are literally bombarded by emails from press representatives, managers and sometimes bands themselves who are all vying for your time as it applies to their talents. Despite the relatively full plate I was intrigued by the California based Melodic Metalcore band called Stitched Up Heart and their tasty three track EP so I wanted to use the time to talk to you a little about them in hopes you find them of similar appeal. The band has only been around since 2010 and according to some research has done the Warped Tour along with some other notable appearances. Fronted by the energetic and very visual vocalist Mixi, they infuse some Punk angle into high energy Rock and in the end left me feeling they were a brand of Melodic Metalcore but one that does not use growling vocals and instead keep it on the clean side for the most part. I had to say that I really liked Mixi’s vocal register as well as her unique look.
The EP opens with “We’re Alive” and I love this tune the most from the other offerings. It’s an energetic shout of strength and very, very catchy. It’s a driving number as well and one that will very likely be of instant appeal to a wide number of Hard Rock fans. There are plenty of videos of the band doing this one online so please do check it out. “Is This The Way To Hell” is also a winner and has a powerful and fast paced groove and solid chorus. The guitar work is clean and effective while the rhythm section solid and keeps the blood pumping. This also struck me as a great tune for the concert stage and if I ever manage to catch them in action I will hope for these two first tracks for sure. The EP closes up in a different fashion from what I expected and is more of a Pop/Electronic tune that seems laden with sorrow but does have an effect. The group also features Mikey- Lead Guitar, Nikki Misery- Guitar, Andrew- Drums, and Charlee Thrash- Bass. All of them appear to work together well from the sound of the EP. In the end you want more from the band but these tunes are enough to build some curiosity and find you looking more into them. I’ll be hopeful that the right label or press people latch onto them so these and other quality tunes reach an amplified audience. I recommend this for fans of bands like Black Veil Brides based on some of the groove that I found being in place.
