Drummer Fredrik Andersson Leaves Amon Amarth

It would seem that the hammer of the Thunder God’s of Metal will be silent for awhile as the news is currently circulating about drummer Fredrik Andersson leaving the band Amon Amarth. A role he has commendably filled for the past seventeen years. The brief statement from the band follows and reads:

“Amon Amarth and drummer Fredrik Andersson have decided to part ways after 17 years. Fredrik has been an important part of Amon Amarth’s development since he joined the band in 1998 and we wish him all the best for the future. We are currently in the process of writing the new album, but at the moment there is no replacement for him”.

That some sad news but in bands as much as regular life nothing is forever and peoples needs change as they grow older. Speaking personally, I’ve greatly enjoyed the thunderous smiting that I’ve gotten at Amon Amarth shows care of Fredrik and for the time being this will put a bump in the bands plans. That said there are tons of talented players out there who can likely become a solid replacement so if you are someone who thinks that they have the chops for the job, I say “get thee to the recording studio and start loading videos onto YouTube”. Hey that worked for Journey and several other notables so why not Amon Amarth. Below please find some photos that were shot of Andersson over the years that I have been reporting on their musical adventures on our side of the pond.

  1. Unfortunate to hear but life is change. I remember hearing Ace Freheley and Peter Criss were leaving Kiss; Adrian Smith leaving Iron Maiden; hell even as recent as cornerstone guitarist K.K. Downing leaving Judas Priest. While I and many fans wish the lineup they love stays intact, things change. We just hope it can somehow change in a positive way.
