You might have heard me say this a few times on the website about it never being too late to start listening to a band. This mindset is true even if your immediate musical circle of friends have been ahead of you by a few years on any particular group and I bring this up because that is where I stand when it comes to the Progressive Rock wonders from Poland known as Riverside. The other day the band released the first single entitled “Discard Your Fear” from their upcoming album “Love, Fear and The Time Machine”. Let’s go over the number, shall we?

Before I sat down to listen to this single I had to admit that I don’t recall ever hearing the band’s music before and while I might be mistaken given just how much musical input my brain takes on, it wasn’t coming to me and as the melodies of the single played through I felt that I had cheated myself for a very long time. There is an almost ethereal atmosphere being delivered on this one with wonderful guitar tones and just enough effect on the vocals to make them sound bigger and brighter. The band is comprised of Mariusz Duda (vocals, bass, acoustic guitar, ukulele), Piotr Grudziński (guitar), Michał Łapaj (keyboards) and Piotr Kozieradzki (drums) and the whole tune brings a warm feeling to your musical mind. Kudos to all of you on this one and I cannot wait to hear the full finished album. Riverside’s new album is coming out in early September so there is a little wait time for it. If you are in the same boat as I was and just looking into the band, you can do what I will be doing which is listening to the older stuff on Spotify and watching YouTube.com videos.
