DC Comics Presents: “Convergence” Week Eight (5/2015)

Logo - DC Comics - Convergence

Hello readers and welcome to the final installment of the DC Comics “Convergence” overviews. You have safely arrived at chapter eight which is the last of these narratives about the series. For those new to the program, the “Convergence” titles have been running for the past two months and were two issues apiece in addition to a single “Convergence” issue which is now up to its own eighth edition. With the second issues we are getting expanded issues that feature several pages of teaser for what we can expect in the new DC Comics Universe. If you are still missing some issues, don’t worry these extra pages are not the same in each title. There are also variant covers by Chip Kidd on each of the second issues. Let’s get down to the premise from publicity and the cover art. I’ll close it up with thoughts of my own as usual.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: And so the last chapter in the “Convergence” tales has ended and for those wondering if the DC Universe will ever be the same well the answer is a resounding “No”. It’s a negative because we are not even returning to the universe of “The New 52” that many have been enjoying for the last couple of years and instead a whole new slew of titles are coming up starting next week. I admit that I am a little surprised and then again am a little not at the same time because I was both behind a number of these “52” titles but could care less about an equal amount of them. The frequent cancellation of titles to move another into the mix was getting a little hard to keep up with as well. As far as stories go, this “Convergence” was an interesting storyline that teased us with some of the world’s that have long since gone away and the characters that lived upon them. There was a little part of me that wanted them to just continue along with these ones as opposed to going back to “The New 52” in the first place and it looks as though I got that wish just the same. Alas when it was all said and done we are getting a new revamp that brings a score of new books onto the horizon and into collector’s hands. If you are wondering what is coming next, please stay tuned until next week’s installment of the “Comic Book Insights” as I’ll be discussing the June offerings in full in that narrative. What did you readers think of this whole process? Did you love it, did you hate it? Whatever the case may be I will see you next week.
