DC Comics First Issues Onsale In January 2016

DC Comics is going to launch us into 2016 in a good fashion based on these five new offerings. From the looks of it the lines of good and evil are divided equally and compounded by a dose of the supernatural. Take a look at the provided press copy and cover art and then I’ll return with some additional thoughts.

"Green Lantern Corps: Edge Of Oblivion" #1
“Green Lantern Corps: Edge Of Oblivion” #1

GREEN LANTERN CORPS: EDGE OF OBLIVION #1: Picking up where “GREEN LANTERN: LOST ARMY” left off! As the universe around them reaches entropy, the Green Lantern Corps must find a way home! Along the way, they’ll face dying gods, worlds torn asunder and a desperate group of survivors whose only hope is these cosmic heroes.

"Legend Of Wonder Woman" #1
“Legend Of Wonder Woman” #1

THE LEGEND OF WONDER WOMAN #1: A new Wonder Woman 9-issue miniseries begins here with a story written and pencilled by Renae De Liz (The Last Unicorn)! In the beginning there was only chaos. But Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, saw a better future—and eventually, her daughter would be destined to bring that new world to life! Before her ultimate fate unfolds, though, Diana of Themyscira must learn the important lessons of an Amazonian childhood!

"Poison Ivy: Cycle Of Life and Death" #1
“Poison Ivy: Cycle Of Life and Death” #1

POISON IVY: CYCLE OF LIFE AND DEATH #1: Life. Death. Poison Ivy has power over both. But can she keep her friends and hold down a regular job at the same time? As Dr. Pamela Isley, she joins the prestigious plant sciences department at Gotham Botanical Gardens, but things quickly get complicated when a fellow scientist is murdered and it looks like the work of Ivy. Don’t miss the start of this new 6-issue miniseries!

"Suicide Squad Most Wanted: Deadshot/Katana" #1
“Suicide Squad Most Wanted: Deadshot/Katana” #1

SUICIDE SQUAD MOST WANTED: DEADSHOT/KATANA #1: Two of the stars of next year’s highly anticipated action movie break out in their own solo adventures in this extra-sized, 6-issue miniseries! First, in a story by Brian Buccellato, Viktor Bogdanovic and Richard Friend, Deadshot is on the run, taking on a series of new contracts, and re-establishing himself as the world’s most deadly marksman. But things are about to get complicated for Floyd Lawton when a figure from his past threatens to expose a dark secret…and Deadshot gets word of his next target: Lex Luthor! Then, writer Mike W. Barr returns to the character he co-created in “Katana, Cult of the Kobra,” with art by Diogenes Neves. Katana needs to know more about Soultaker’s origin if she’s going to have any hope of controlling the sword instead of falling under its influence. Dr. Helga Jace, a Markovian astrophysicist, may be able to shed some light—but before Katana can get the info, Kobra’s forces attack!

"Swamp Thing" #1
“Swamp Thing” #1

SWAMP THING #1: Swamp Thing returns in an all-new series written by his co-creator, legendary writer Len Wein! Swamp Thing has received an ominous warning, and now he finds himself under attack from the forces of dark magic. These are more than just your average monsters—and there’s something much worse looming on the horizon for Alec Holland!

PiercingMetal Thoughts: The Wonder Woman reveal in the upcoming “Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice” and her own pending film in 2017 is getting some new excitement from fans who might never have given the character some love before. That is never a bad thing in my humble opinion so let’s see how this mini-series does. Now with that being said, even though their own film is coming out later in the year there has been a strong buzz about the villainous Suicide Squad whose trailers have been circulating and makes me interested in the title about two of those characters. I’ll likely peruse the Poison Ivy and Green Lantern title on the shelves and purchase a collected edition but think my highest excitement comes from the Wein/Jones Swamp Thing collaboration. Talk about a classic team on an equally classic character. So there you go with the first issues for the new year from DC Comics. There is going to be lots of reading going on in 2016 and that is never a bad thing. Let me know what you think of these titles and I’ll see you back with more comic book stuff soon.
