DC Comics First Issues Coming February 2018

So here we are in February and according to one groundhog, the winter is going to last for another six weeks. Of course the other one said its an early Spring but who can really trust what these critters feel will be the case. It’s been a promising January in terms of all things music and mass media but now its time to get into the new month with a wide assortment of the comics that are hitting the racks from the DC Comics side of the fence. As usual, the overall premise and cover art comes from their resources but the editorial closing is all me. Let’s begin with a couple of titles that were re-solicited for this month after being expected last month.

“JLA/Doom Patrol Special” #1

JLA/DOOM PATROL SPECIAL #1: “MILK WARS” part one! Welcome to the un-event of the year! Kicking off a line-wide adventure, DC’s Young Animal collides with the DC Universe to bring you a different kind of crossover. The Doom Patrol has discovered that an interdimensional corporation called RetCo has been stealing stories, reconfiguring them and repackaging them for new markets. Our gang of misfit heroes have felt the touch of this nefarious company, and it has already started to change them. Even scarier, though, is how deeply RetCo has embedded itself into current continuity, using the radioactive milk of psychic cows to quell the more dangerous impulses of the Justice League and turn them into heroes safe for the masses. And to kick this off, RetCo has gone all the way to the top.

Meet Milkman Man, heretofore unknown final son of Krypton, who was sent to our planet to save him from the destruction of his homeworld, only to be adopted by an evil dairy farmer and raised to love all things dairy! Co-plotted by Steve Orlando and Gerard Way, with art by ACO (MIDNIGHTER), this extra-sized special starts “Milk Wars” with a splash! Plus, who is Eternity Girl, and how does she connect to this whole scheme? A special four-part back-up feature by Magdalene Visaggio (Kim and Kim) and Sonny Liew (The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye) begins here. One-shot.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: From the looks of it, the combination of the “Young Animal” line and the conventional DC Universe going on in these one-shots makes me tinhink that they are trying to integrate the two universes. Speaking frankly, I was not following any of the “Young Animal” titles and as result I will probably give these a glance while they are still on the racks. Not sure I’d like to plunk down $5 a copy on a group of issues that will most likely be a single collected edition in a few short months. I do want to get the “Sideways” and “The Terrifics” issues though for sure and that is that. You readers can let me know what issues if any are of interest to you from this list down in the comments section below. Fans of the comics and toy inclusions will be happy to know that I will once again be exploring the American International Toy Fair in the coming weeks and I am saying it here especially since an appointment has been scheduled with DC Collectibles to see their offerings. We love their stuff. Okay, see you next time.
