Wow. So apparently Revolver Magazine has just reached their 100th issue and with this being the case and I wanted to take a moment to say kudos on the achievement. I’m a long time fan of the comics medium, which I speak about in my Comic Book Insight section on the site, and when you follow that kind of stuff you tend to realize that reaching 100 issues is not all that easy to do. When it happens in the comics there is often a big hoopla so why not do the same thing when a magazine that supports the same scene that I walk upon in the Metal Republic. Check out the cool cover.
The main feature of this particular issue is their picks for the “100 Greatest Living Rock Stars” and the segment runs for twenty nine pages and gives the reader a photo and some quick background on the artist. Some of them get a little more page space than others which I didn’t understand how one ranked against another and there was no numeric order to the listing to speak of. Despite this it was interesting to read.
So who are the “100 Greatest Living Rock Stars” according to Revolver Magazine? Well, I decided to take the time to type up the whole run down in their order, are you ready? OK here goes nothing: Axl Rose, Phil Anselmo, Corey Taylor, James Hetfield, Ozzy Osbourne, Gene Simmons, Vince Neil, Amy Lee, Lemy Kilmister, Billy Corgan, Angus Young, Trent Reznor, Maynard James Keenan, Blackie Lawless, Kid Rock, Sully Erna, Kerry King, Jimmy Page, Ted Nugent, Nergal, Danny Worsnop, Taylor Momsen, Serj Tankian, Steven Tyler, Till Lidemann, Dave Navarro, Henry Rollins, Scott Ian, Chester Bennington, Nikki Sixx, Ivan Moddy, Marilyn Manson, Dave Mustaine, Al Jourgensen, Rob Zombie, Ching Moreno, Rob Halford, M. Shadows, Josh Homme, Scott Weiland, Jonathan Davis, James Durbin, Flea, Ville Valo, Kind Diamond, Sebastian Bach, Sammy Hagar, Chris Cornell, Glenn Danzig, Duff McKagan, David Draiman, David Lee Roth, Iggy Pop, Randy Blythe, David Coverdale, Skrillex, Aaron Lewis, Tommy Lee, Billie Joe Armstrong, Phil Collen, Shaun Morgan, Lars Ulrich, Jamey Jasta, Chris Jericho, Roger Waters, Ronnie Radke, Bret Michaels, Dave Grohl, Brian May, Keith Richards, Eddie Van Halen, Jerry Cantrell, Robert Plant, Billy Idol, Jacoby Shaddix, Dee Snider, Zakk Wylde, Chad Kroeger, Vinnie Paul, Billy Gibbons, Pete Townsend, Kirk Hammett, Alice Cooper, Jeremy McKinnon, Tom Morello, Slash, Mick Mars, johnny Rotten, Brian Johnson, Davey Havok, Bruce Dickinson, Tony Iommi, Nathan Explosion, Alexi Laiho, Gerard May, Joe Perry, Geezer Butler, Eddie Vedder, Joan Jett, Andy Biersack.
After reading this I will say that some of the list surprised me based on a few of the inclusions and some omissions made me scratch my chin but oh well. These lists are always something that sparks debate with the Metal Republic but I don’t have time to get one started right now. I did entertain offering up a quick list of my own “25 Top Metal Providers” but that will have to be a feature I add to the blog in the coming year. Let’s see what happens.
The 100th issue also features a number of other cool articles and their top albums of 2011 which is some solid reading. If you want to know what those are you will have to pick up a copy on the newsstand or order online via their website. Congrats once more on the milestone I raise a glass to you and of course the prerequisite “horns”; Here’s to your next 100 issues.
