It was very simply an amazing day of Spring on this December 13th and for those non NYC residents let me say that I was not being glib as we were really being treated to a 65 degree day. I’m sure winter is coming and will slam us around when it finally gets here but it looks like we have a few more days of unexpected weather for this time of the year. It was the perfect day for the world to be reminded about the alien threat that we faced some twenty years ago in the blockbuster film “Independence Day” and just when you thought it was safe to look to the stars with hope…….they’re back…… Yes those pesky aliens are back to mess with the manner of things in “Independence Day: Resurgence” and the trailer was unveiled a few short hours ago. Check it out.
The Premise: Twenty years after the events of the first film, the international community recovers and builds up Earth’s defenses using technology salvaged from remains of the alien forces. However, the aliens were able to send a distress signal before their final defeat, which results in a new task force of alien ships coming to Earth and threatening the human race once more. (thanks Wiki).
PiercingMetal Thoughts: I loved this first film and remember watching it over and over when it finally came out on DVD. I don’t remember seeing it in the movies at all and after twenty years cannot even hope to tell you why that happened. I do know that it was one of the first DVD’s that I bought for my still very new apartment and played it regularly on my glorious 27″ tube television. You see those massive LCD flat screens were not so common at the time. The sequel doesn’t seem to star Will Smith and I could care less about his inclusion. Next year he’ll be busy potentially ruining the Deadshot character in the DC Extended Universe’s “Suicide Squad” film but we do get Jeff Goldblum who was great in there along with Judd Hirsch. I’m interested in seeing just how much help the original alien invasion technology we have had from them assists us in the battle when their friends come a calling. What did you readers think about this particular trailer? Was the original film among your favorites and you must be there on opening day? Let me know in the comments section where they count the most.
