“Look up in the sky, it’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s………….Supergirl!!!! Yes my comic themed television lovers, “Supergirl” is getting her own series and it will air on the CBS Network later on in the year. You know, CBS would have made the third network to be airing a DC Comics property if NBC hadn’t cancelled the what I thought was excellent “Constantine” series only a few short weeks ago. Man I am still bummed about that one since it seemed to be handling the character properly but oh well, I am not some network bigshot and am instead only your humble Pop Culture servant when it comes down to it. That said, CBS has given us a rather lengthy trailer or more like an exclusive look to the new “Supergirl” show and I have embedded that video for your consumption below. Check it out and I will be back with some thoughts.
Here is a brief glimpse of the cast for the show. More names will likely be revealed as the series premiere draws closer.
Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El / Kara Danvers
Malina Weissman as a young Kara
Mehcad Brooks as James “Jimmy” Olsen
Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant
David Harewood as Hank Henshaw
Chyler Leigh as Alexandra “Alex” Danvers
PiercingMetal Thoughts: Alright I’m game. From the look of this preview, the show seems interesting enough based on this not-too much of a teaser trailer and appears to have some charm to it. The character of Cat Grant strikes me just as I remember her from the comics as an ego-centric know it all and from the look of it we are getting a little “Devil Wears Prada” in her depiction by Calista Flockhart. I don’t really know any of the other actors in the series and that includes the one portraying Supergirl but Melissa sure does seem likeable to me and after watching the clip for a second time feel that they are working in a lot of the human element in terms of her private life. Let’s just hope they have not gone the route of the absolutely horrendous “Justice League” live action show from the nineties. If this is a mystery to you I would suggest caution before looking any of it up on YouTube.com because it gives new meaning to the words Godawful. I will be setting my DVR to capture this series when it airs and I wonder what you fans all think about it. Will the sudden reveal of the full on series bring us a lot more girls dressed in Supergirl Cosplay at NY Comic Con in October? Only time will tell, but for now let me know what you think in the comments section which is open for you to do that.
