Title: “Contents Under Pressure” – Rush Authorized Autobiography
Author: Martin Popoff
Publisher: ECW Press
Release Date: 7/2003
When one thinks of Rush, one of the first things that comes to mind is the lengthy and diverse musical expertise that they possess. They are probably one of the most talented bands to ever exist in modern music no matter how you look at it. They are often referred to as the “Fathers Of Progressive Metal” and this truly applies given the time that Rush first provided us with music. Their rich and unique style eventually gave bands like Dream Theater, Queensryche and Fates Warning a niche to apply their talents. In recent years their World tours (billed as “An Evening With Rush”) have sold out consistently and given their legions of fans a reason to return again and again.

Title: “Season Of Death”
Release Date: unknown
Genre: Heavy Metal
Monroe New York residents Haunted By Angels have proven that the metal scene is not just necessarily city based. Their self-titled CD “Season Of Death” is a great example of these NY Rockers. Led by Singer Jane Evil, they showcase a very Maiden/Priest influenced metal. The group is made up of DJ Breyerton (Bass), Dave Derrig (drums), Art McDermott (guitar), and Andy Wheeler (guitar).
The production is good on the piece, but not always excellent as I felt at times the vocals or guitar overdid the drums or bass too much. I also felt for the quality of drum time that is being kept by Dave that they could have given him a cleaner sound. It makes it sound too demo like for a recording of professional quality. This is not the bands fault. It is my hope that on a potential signing that they will revisit these tunes and get them to have the delivery that was intended.

Title: “Essence Of Infinity” – Demo
Label: Demo – unsigned
Release Date: 9/2004
Genre: Melodic Power
San Antonio Texas’ own “Of Infinity” has just released their 3 track CD Demo entitled “The Essence Of Infinity”. This is a moody and heavy piece. The almost Angelic voice of Alessandra Zinicola cutting through the well orchestrated melodies. She really does have a great voice, and it is very powerful. One can see how her influences in such bands as Nightwish show in her delivery. Nazareth Sando on guitar plays to a frenzy over the drumming (which on this release was programmed). Kurtis Kyllo holds the whole piece together on the bass.

Genre: Alternative Metal
The first time I heard Evanesence was while watching the movie “Daredevil”. The song was “Bring Me To Life” and I felt this song had an energy that was missing from a lot of the newer bands that were making appearances most recently. Someone had described them to me as a “Linkin Park with a girl singer” but that is a wrong assumption. Singer Amy Lee is a far cry from some demure Waif as she belts out the numbers on this CD. Her voice packs a punch like some of the great rockers of our time. I immediately think of Pat Benetar and Lita Ford. Yet she is also capable of delivering a sensual ballad which you will hear in “My Immortal”.
