Boy have there been a lot of chances to use the “Movie and TV Mania” category, but I am okay with that because we love to spark you to attention about these shows that interest us and most likely you. This has worked out so far and longer time readers probably realize that I am speaking about the day of broadcasting I’ve done when films that speak directly to our audience demographic are opening up. That being said, tonight is the night for the broadcast television premiere of Josh Whedon’s “Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.”….The acronym in the Marvel Cinematic Universe stands for Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division but it was originally Supreme Headquarters, International Espionage, Law-Enforcement Division back in the early days. Then it got changed in 1991 to Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate until its most recent re-branding. For me as a fan of the organization I feel it works. Do you?
For the fans who have missed the live action adventures of Vin Diesel as the anti-hero Riddick, today the third film featuring the character opens up and is simply entitled “Riddick”. The film is Produced by Vin Diesel (who stars as the title character) and its been written and directed by David Twohy, who did the first two installments, Pitch Black (2000) and The Chronicles of Riddick (2004).
Having only seen the first film of the series and not the second nor the animated feature I cannot really speak to much about where this takes us. According to what I have read it takes place several years after where fans last saw him. Does this interest you as a fan? I will admit that I am intrigued since I saw the trailer and thought it looked pretty good. Of course they always seem to show the best parts in those trailers.

What time is it you say? Well, its time to “Kick Ass” once again…..
Today is the day that the sequel to the superhero action adventure “Kick Ass” comes out and I am pretty excited since I really enjoyed the first film. Oddly enough it bypassed me when it was initially released and I had to catch it on Netflix but trust me, its a fun ride for any fans of superhero films. For those unaware of the plot line, the world of Kick Ass is a normal place where real life people are taking up the mantle of serving the greater good by becoming super heroes. As we learned in the first film, some of these heroes are better at the task and some not so much and as you might expect, where heroes tend to wander so do the wanna be super villains. Who will come out on top in the second chapter of this brought to life universe? Only seeing the film will help you learn those answers.

It thrilled you in comic book form and now the long anticipated animated adaptation of “Flashpoint” is here and entitled “Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox”. It’s a straight to video release and you can learn more about it below the graphic.
Brief Premise (as found on Wikipedia): While visiting his mother’s grave, Barry Allen, known as the Flash, is alerted to a break-in by Captain Cold, Captain Boomerang, Heat Wave, Mirror Master, and Top at the Flash Museum. Defeating the rogues, he discovers that they have been hired by his arch-enemy Professor Zoom as part of a plan to destroy Central City. With the help of the Justice League, Barry foils Zoom’s plot, but Zoom’s taunts over the death of his mother still haunt Barry as he departs. The next day, Barry discovers that the world has radically changed: his powers are gone, his mother is alive, his wife Iris is married to someone else, and the Justice League does not exist.

I was surfing around researching something entirely different when I found myself on the Wikipedia entry for “Friday Night Videos” and when I learned that the debut episodes thirtieth anniversary was coming up, I decided to type up something in its honor and have it go live now 🙂 Such are the benefits of the queuing process.
I’m toasting this because I didn’t have MTV for quite some time back in these bygone days and that meant the only way that I was enjoying videos was on a program like this. Thanks to the existence of “Friday Night Videos” I saw premieres of Van Halen videos, Twisted Sister videos, Def Leppard, ZZ Top and even your New Wave greats of Duran Duran and Billy Idol. Don’t laugh because those groups made some awesome videos. These little films don’t seem to be as valuable as they once were in today’s market but I had to say that I loved all the classic ones and am glad we have DVD’s of them and YouTube were some folks have converted their legacy VHS tapes. That said I should probably do that sometime since I think I have about ten tapes of classic videos. Yeah I was “that guy” but so many of my friends were as well. Read up about the program itself via its Wiki entry below. Thanks Friday Night Videos for helping keep my Metal and Rock interests on the proper path 🙂
