Way back in 1982, the world rallied behind Arnold Schwarzenegger when he delivered the first ever live-action “Conan The Barbarian” film. Now it’s Jason Momoa’s turn to take on the classic Robert E. Howard creation in a movie that will bear the same name. Check out the just released trailer for this film along with premise, and casting.

The Plot: Conan is the son of Corin, chief of a barbarian tribe. The youth is a skilled but violent warrior, who his father believes is not ready to wield his own sword. Their village is attacked by Khalar Zym, a warlord who wishes to reunite the pieces of the Mask of Acheron to revive his dead wife and conquer Hyboria. The Mask, crafted by a group of sorcerers and used to subjugate the world, was broken into many pieces, scattered among the barbarian tribes. After locating Corin’s piece of the mask, and murdering the entire village, Zym leaves. Conan, the only survivor, swears revenge.

Opening Today: “Thor” (5/6/2011)

“Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor….”

Those are the words inscribed upon the legendary Mjolnir, the hammer of Thor and the only weapon worthy of a Thunder God. Today the film that presents his adventures to the world will open as Marvel Comics continues their delivery of live action super hero films.

The film stars Chris Hemsworth as The Mighty Thor and his is joined by Anthony Hopkins (Odin), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), and Tom Hiddleston (Loki). I’ve tried to avoid any advance insight but its been reported that the film will take place both on Asgard and on Earth which is good to find being the case. In terms of comic book characters I have always enjoyed Thor as a super hero even if I was not following him as long as I was the likes of Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four or Hulk. Needless to say I’m pretty excited for this as it brings us one step closer to “The Avengers” which they say will be coming at us in 2012 some time. So far they have been doing a bang up job with these films and each one has led us into the next thanks to the closing teaser scene. My hope is that you readers have seen “Iron Man”, “Incredible Hulk” and “Iron Man 2” already and if not, what are you waiting for? “Thor” is directed by Kenneth Branagh and produced by Kevin Feige.

To avoid spoilers to the larger plot of the film I’ve closed the ability to comment on this posting. Should I end up posting a review of any kind on the site, you will be more than welcome to leave us your own thoughts on that post. Hopefully I will see the film before I hear too many details myself. I seldom get to go on the opening day even though I would love to for stuff like this.

Airing Tonight: “That Metal Show” Season 7

I guess its fair to view “7” as a lucky number when you are a Metal fan and you realize that Eddie Trunk and the VH1 Classic “That Metal Show” program will begin its seventh season this evening. As expected it will also feature his co-hosts since the first episode comedians Don Jamieson and Jim Florentine.

Opening Today: “The Green Hornet” (1/14/2011)

Today is the release of the long anticipated “Green Hornet” film in case you were wondering.

Without going into too many details about it, the film appears to be more of an Action Packed Superhero Comedy as opposed to the playing it on the dramatic edge like the original television series was. Part of me is not too sure how this will work out because I really liked how the series was first presented as a crime drama and of course in that episode of the way classic “Batman” series where the two teams butted heads. If you’ve never seen it I can tell you with some certainty that it is on YouTube.com, just search for “A Piece Of The Action”, oh heck just click HERE 🙂 The crossover episode was the lead into the Hornet’s own short lived series and it starred Van Williams and Bruce Lee. To me it doesn’t seem smart playing it up as comedy but who knows, maybe it will be a fun ride just the same.

I’ve been a fan of The Green Hornet for a few years now and always enjoyed how he was on the side of the right but played it up as a master criminal. It was clever to see it done that way and when they issued a comic book title on the long defunct NOW! Comics, I bought a copy each and every month. I still have them somewhere in my collection. I am not too sure if the collected edition of some of those tales is still in print but if you can find one its a recommendation. Hopefully the movie does good, only time will tell.

Starring:
Seth Rogen as Britt Reid/The Green Hornet
Jay Chou as Kato
Christoph Waltz as Benjamin Chudnofsky
Cameron Diaz as Lenore “Casey” Case
Tom Wilkinson as James Reid
David Harbour as District Attorney Frank Scanlon
Edward James Olmos as Mike Axford
Jamie Harris as Popeye
Chad Coleman as Chili
Edward Furlong as Tupper
Analeigh Tipton as Ana Lee
Reuben Langdon as Crackhead
Jerry Trimble as Chudnofsky’s man
James Franco as Danny “Crystal” Clear”

Sadly the referenced classic sixties “Green Hornet” television series AND the “Batman” series where most fans of a certain age got their first glimpse of the character are NOT yet available on DVD for purchase. The movie serials that preceded them are however as are a number of books which I have embedded here for your perusal.

NBC Dons “The Cape” To Fight Crime & Injustice (1/9/2011)

I’ve touched upon my interest in the superhero side of the entertainment realm by mentioning about my almost lifelong appreciation for the comic book medium and the adventures of great heroes such as Spider-Man, Batman, Superman and The Fantastic Four to name a choice few. It was one of the main reasons that I enjoyed being a member of the press at the 2010 NY Comic Con & Anime Festival and all of this brings me to the reason for this particular posting. It seems as though NBC is taking a plunge into the heroic action-adventure line of programming once again by offering us a show called “The Cape”. The show poster is below.
