I guess it was just about a couple of months ago when I gave a quick overview of the first single “Red” from The 69 Eyes upcoming album “X” and with the album coming out in the next week or so I was a bit surprised to find a second single hitting so close to the street date. This next song is called “Borderline” and here are a few thoughts about it. The song begins with an almost 50’s sort of guitar twang and is slower than the previous offering and I guess can be viewed as a quasi-ballad.
Jyrki 69 offers up a truly melancholy vibe in this one as his dark and resonant vocal register echoes across the melody lines. It’s very solemn and moody but has a great passion to it and I think those who are in love with his sound will be over the wall on this one. The playing is tight but the tune remains slow from beginning to end and there also appears to be a female vocal in the mix at points. I can see this one being played over the airwaves on one of the satellite stations or perhaps the Internet radio that features Gothic Melodic Rock. “X” is coming soon, so count your moments my fellow vampires.
