The King’s Statement:

“I just found out that I lost one of my dearest friends, who has been fighting cancer for a long time, in such an incredibly brave way. He was not just my roommate on the early Mercyful Fate tours, but he was always my favorite bass player of all times. I was fortunate to have been able to visit him at his apartment with some other good friends, and we had a great afternoon that will never be forgotten. When I last talked to Timi on the phone on October 24th, I could understand that things had gotten tougher than they ever were, and yet he said “we fight on”. I feel so so sad for his entire family, you have my absolute deepest sympathy. Rest in Peace my dear dear friend”.

The ardent Metal Legions will know that Hansen played on all of the early Mercyful Fate albums of note such as “Nuns Have No Fun”, “Melissa”, “Don’t Break the Oath”, “Return of the Vampire”, “In the Shadows” and “The Bell Witch”. When King Diamond embarked on his solo career Hansen went along and would record “No Presents For Christmas”, “Fatal Portrait”, “Abigail” and “The Dark Sides”. He would serve this role from 1982 until 1994 across both acts. I should admit that I was a latecomer to Fate music and first heard them with “Don’t Break The Oath”. The King Diamond stuff I was on point with at the onset and I really enjoyed Hansens playing on all of it. He was a solid and talented player who definitely influenced a lot of up and coming Metal bands. I am sure the list of them features some of the Rock stars of today.

We wish his family, friends, bandmates and worldwide fans the deepest of condolences during this terrible time. Thanks for the music Timi, you will be missed. May you Rest In Peace.
