When we last got a visit from the guys in Apocalyptica here in the good old USA, they were actually opening up for Sixx A.M. which is the band that features Nikki Sixx. This support spot surprised a lot of fans because we had been so used to them headlining with each and every visit. Those of us who saw the band during that tour also got to see the groups new singer Frankie Perez and while it was a great live experience as always, the support slot was far too short. Now it’s time for the band to take the headlining stage once more as they continue to support their “Shadowmaker” album and if you scroll below the poster you will get the full press release and tour dates. I’ll be back afterwards with some additional thoughts. Check it out.
The Press Release:
February 9th, 2016 (New York, NY) – The Finnish, cello-wielding metal quintet, APOCALYPTICA have announced they will bring their unique and exciting live show to 23 cities across the U.S. The tour kicks off on April 23 in Sayreville, NJ at Starland Ballroom, with bands 10 Years and Failure Anthem serving as support. See full dates below. Tickets go on sale to the public Friday February 12th,but members of the band’s Fan Club will have the special opportunity to buy their tickets a day early on Thursday February 11th.
“It’s really exciting for us to return to the US for another headline tour and we can’t wait to present a lot of new material from album Shadowmaker,” says APOCALYPTICA. “Our singer Franky Perez, who is a real entertainer, will definitely bring an interesting new edge to our show for those familiar with our live set. We are looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones all across the U.S.”
Fresh off their Japanese tour dates with VAMPS, APOCALYPTICA’s U.S. headlining run follows their 2015, critically-acclaimed, eighth studio album, Shadowmaker. Revolver said “Shadowmaker’ showcases their current blend of classical riffs, modern rock melancholy and manic rhythms” Unlike the band’s previous albums, which included various guest vocalists, Shadowmaker includes all vocals from Franky Perez (Scars on Broadway), who will also hold lead-singer duties on the upcoming tour.
The band’s current single ‘House of Chains’ produced by Kevin Churko (Five Finger Death Punch, Papa Roach) is currently climbing the rock radio charts. The lyric video for ‘House of Chains’ depicts a relationship with use of explicit horror clips and images perfectly capturing how powerful binding relationships can be. The themes of this song/video have already caught fans attentions propelling the video to over 100,000+ views since its release. Check out the lyric video for ‘House Of Chains’ HERE
Since their inception in 1993, the cello wielding quartet of Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen, Perttu Kivilaakso and drummer Mikko Sirén have redefined the boundaries between rock, metal and classical music in a truly unprecedented way: they’ve not so much rewritten the rulebook as penned a brand new tome all of their own. Formed initially by four true virtuosos at Helsinki’s Sibelius Academy, over the course of seven highly acclaimed studio albums (of which they have sold in excess of five million copies globally) they have forged a reputation as an act capable of bringing million copies globally) they have forged a reputation as an act capable of bringing fans from both heavy and more traditional musical spheres together in euphoric celebration. The addition of vocalist, Franky Perez (Scars on Broadway) was the final piece of the puzzle for the band. From bow-eviscerating speed to sprawling, spine-shivering waves of sound, Apocalyptica’s sonic palette is as rich as it is diverse: Metallica covers, Wagnerian tributes alongside international Symphony Orchestra’s and collaborations with members of Slipknot, Soulfly and Bush all falling comfortably within the band’s remit.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: I’ve been a big supporter of Apocalyptica for as long as I can remember and think that I have caught every single NYC date that they had done over the last ten year or so. My math might be a little off but suffice to say I have seen this group a lot and always enjoy myself thanks to their monster level of creativity and the difference that their sound brings to the table. It’s going to be great watching them deliver a proper and lengthy set for their fans on this side of the Atlantic. The band 10 Years is interesting as well and should be a fine direct support act. I know I am penciling in the NYC date at Irving Plaza in my planner or well, programming it into my mobile device I mean. What do you readers think of this tour? Let me know in the comments below.
