Look up in the sky, its a bird, its a plane…’s Supergirl!!!! Yes it is and I hope you don’t mind my slight reworking of the classic intro to the old George Reeves “Superman” show because it made sense to do so with tonight being the premiere of the first episode of “Supergirl” on CBS. Let’s take a quick look at the poster art, the premise and cast and then chat a bit on this one.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: I am officially on the fence with this series now and that is because since we first saw its trailer, the other major network dropped “Constantine” and it leaves me wondering will the show work on CBS, a network known more for crime procedurals and reality shows. I hope so because there are moments where the show looks like it will be a lot of fun. Since its television I don’t expect the Big Red S to show up outside of being referenced as a relative because Warner Brothers will have the big “Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice” film coming out in Spring next year. I like the idea of Red Tornado being a part of the show because the more representations of heroes on these shows the better it will be. I wish we saw more of that on Marvels television shows but in truth we really only have the three season deep “Agents Of SHIELD” to do it. So far its only lightly bringing the film aspects to television more than introducing us to new characters from the comic pages as often as I would like. I digress. I am wondering how Maxwell Lord is going to come across and I am already hating Calista as Cat Grant, she just isn’t doing it for me but anyway. At Comic Con I discussed the show with a number of folks who had seen it and they were “well, lets hope it works out” while another said “you cannot gauge a full season on the pilot” and they have a point. However it does set up the expectations for the season and has to catch the viewer from the get go. Otherwise they will be checking their Facebook feeds and loading stuff onto Instagram or tweeting. I know that is what I do when something doesn’t keep me focused. Closing up, please tell me what you think of the idea of this show and if you will be watching.

  1. I’m gonna be honest. I was hopeful. I though it might even have been tolerable in a Smallville kind of way. (which took quite some time to grow on me) Having said that, I don’t hold out a lot of hope anymore after everything I’ve seen. At least they embrace the costume, but in most other ways it looks pretty annoying. I shall give it a chance, however. I’m a DC nerd, so I must.
