The Damned To Release Anniversary Edition Of Debut & Spring Tour Dates Unveiled

The Damned are celebrating their 40th Anniversary this year and as we are close to the exact day when their debut album was released, I am sharing the news about a special edition CD and LP coming our way along with news about their return to stateside touring. Please check out the press release that I received along with the poster and dates. I’ll chime in with some editorial opinion at the close which you’ll want to see as well. Enjoy.

The Press Release:
The Damned(Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Monty Oxymoron, Pinch, and Stu West) will be heading into the studio this winter to record a brand new album, their first since 2008's 'So, Who's Paranoid?', for release in 2017, with a pre-order link for the CD, colored vinyl, as well as exclusive merch (and experiences) available at PledgeMusic (http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/the-damned-new-album ). The band have also confirmed a full North American tour, beginning April 6th in Los Angeles.

Cited as one of the most influential punk groups of all time, The Damned contributed vastly to the gothic rock genre and influenced an entire generation of future hardcore punk bands such as Black Flag and Bad Brains, with their fast paced energetic playing style and attitude. Along with the Sex Pistols and The Clash, they helped spearhead the punk movement in the UK. Now, four decades and ten albums later and still on the road, they continue to wave the flag for originality, stick two fingers up to mediocrity and celebrate a DIY punk ethos in the face of plastic entertainment and scripted reality. The band's hugely influential classic debut single, 'New Rose', celebrating its 40th anniversary this month, is being celebrated with a limited edition 7” anniversary release on November 4th via BMG. Featuring original artwork, picture disc and exclusive fold out poster, it's a must have collectable release of one of the most influential records of all time. Stay tuned for forthcoming album details .

PiercingMetal Thoughts: I’ve loved quite a bit of the output by The Damned over the years and thanks to the wayback listening sessions of old that I used to do with likeminded friends, got to hear their classics in the early 80’s. I was not really listening to anything like this before that time but I did my best to make up for it. Having seen the pair of shows that were done in NYC last year I can only stress that you readers attend this tour if its coming close to your place of residence. It’s really solid and super comprehensive. You can read an in-depth Concert Review by our own Buncheman by clicking on THIS LINK. I took the photos in the narrative and it was so much fun shooting the legendary band in my hometown. I’m not sure I will be able to get to the show happening in my region (the Brooklyn one) but if I do you can count on an overview right here on the website. I’d also love to get my hands on a copy of the single for “New Rose”, as that is what started it all for the band. You know we did a Music Milestone piece about the single which you can examine on THIS LINK and be rest assured that when the actual anniversary for the debut comes to pass, a similar posting will be done in that section. Why not right? Okay so what do you readers think about this new re-issue notes and the upcoming dates? Will you be hitting one of the shows (I sure hope you said yes since this is a legendary time for the as legendary band). Fill me in down in the comments section below. Ciao for now.
