As the excitement for the brand new Nightwish album “Decades” and its subsequent touring amps up, the fine folks over at Nuclear Blast Records have unleashed the first Official Trailer about the recording. Let’s take a look below and talk some more afterwards.
About The Clip: Tuomas talking about ‘DECADES’ a collection of essential Nightwish tracks.
PiercingMetal Thoughts: I’m not going to lie to you, Nightwish is one of my very favorite bands and as I’ve mentioned time and time again over the years was very instrumental in the beginning of this journalistic passion of mine. Hearing about the process involved in deciding what songs make up this release of “essential tracks” is of great interest to me so I will be sharing the chapters as they come out. You might remember that I shared numerous installments when Nightwish gave us “Behind The Scenes” views about “Endless Forms Most Beautiful” and there were a LOT of those clips. If you didn’t see them and have some time to kill just click HERE for a rewind through time. I don’t have much more to add about this but I am very excited about the compilation and of course the tour which will be making a stop in my Metal Metropolis. I’m going to be there for sure. What did you think of this clip? I’ll be posting more as they get released so stay tuned.
As previously discussed, Finnish Soprano Tarja Turunen would be delivering what she had described to be a “Gothic and Haunting” Christmas album with “Spirits and Ghosts (Score For A Dark Christmas)” and our first taste of the release came with “O Come O Come Emmanuel”. I compiled thoughts on the number on THIS LINK and now as her second single we find the German Folk classic “O Tannenbaum”. Most of you might know this number as “O Christmas Tree” when its sung in today’s world by carolers who offer up that sort of thing. Let’s examine this other pre-Halloween Holiday offering… Continue reading “O Tannenbaum” (Single) by Tarja→
Artist: Tarja Title: “O Come O Come Emmanuel” (Single) Label: Ear Music Release Date: 10/6/2017 Genre: Holiday/Classical Rating: 4/5
Okay so I am not going to lie to you and say that I love adding a Christmas themed review to the website before Halloween has even hit us but here we are with the debut single from that Finnish vocal sensation Tarja Turunen. Most of you readers know her sonic register from the early Nightwish albums but since that time she’s been a prolific solo performer and has released numerous albums. Some of the releases have been Hard Rock with a twist of Metal and others are more Classical in nature. The new album from Tarja is a Classical Christmas album called “From Spirits and Ghosts (Score For A Dark Christmas)” and the premiere track is her rendition of “O Come O Come Emmanuel”. Here are some thoughts on it. Continue reading “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” (Single) by Tarja→
Artist: Tarja Title: “Demons In You” (Single) w/Alissa White-Gluz Label: Earmusic Release Date: 10/5/2016 Genre: Melodic Metal Rating: 4/5
You know each of their names from two widely different bands and yet despite those differences there is a unified sense to what both Tarja Turunen and Alissa White-Gluz do when it comes to delivering excellent Hard Rock and Metal music. Earlier this year at the Wacken Open Air Festival, Tarja surprised the fans watching her set by bringing out White-Gluz from Arch Enemy to join her for the number “Demons In You”. It was a guest spot that quickly caused a stir across the Interwebs because Tarja’s voice is more angelic while Alissa’s is that of a raging demon. Of course the former singer of The Agonist also possesses a stratospheric vocal register and that gets some time in this special single. Artist: Tarja Title: “Victim Of Ritual” (Single) Label: Armoury Records Release Date: 7/16/2013 Genre: Symphonic Metal Rating: 4/5
You probably already know her name well from at one time being the stratospheric vocal register behind Finland’s mighty Nightwish and in case you haven’t been keeping up with her musical adventures for a while, singer Tarja Turunen has kept quite busy as a solo artist and has recently released the single “Victim Of Ritual”. The tune hails from her upcoming album “Colours In The Dark” and it’s a wonderful number that travels over different worlds of melody as it plays through. Some solemn drums bring us into the tune and then a slightly familiar almost Middle Easten melody begins which I later learned was inspired by Ravel’s “Bolero”. When Tarja begins to sing we are instantly reminded of the power in even her softer moments and it’s a welcome thing for sure. Continue reading “Victim Of Ritual” (Single) by Tarja→
