Earlier today the world learned of the passing of the great surrealist painter H.R. Giger. He was 74 years old.

According to reports, Giger died from injuries stemming from a fall in his home. Most fans know of his biomechanical artwork from albums by Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Carcass, Celtic Frost and Atrocity along with dozens more. He is perhaps most famously known for the original “Alien” film creature designs and its uniquely horrifying world. I think it is safe to say that H. R. Giger knew how to bring our fears and nightmares to the visual format and keep us on the edge of our seats with them.

Fans can learn more about the artist via his official Wiki which I have linked below and of course his own website. I’ve left this a brief memorial toast since there are already numerous postings about his life online in the short time since he has passed. Thank you Mr. Giger for making us afraid of the unknown even more. You succeeded in that very, very well and your creations will live on to spook us night, after night, after night. Your influence will never be less than extraordinary and for this we thank you and send condolences to your family, close friends and world of admirers.
