Getting back onto the comic book first issues coming in December I’m onto the DC Comics stuff and there aren’t a whole lot of new titles launching to speak of. There is an interesting weekly series starting off and a couple of Director’s Cut editions for those fans who enjoy that sort of thing. Check it out.
JUSTICE LEAGUE VS. SUICIDE SQUAD #1: The first major event storyline of DC’s Rebirth era begins with a day Amanda Waller always knew would come: the Justice League discovers the existence of the Suicide Squad! This government-sponsored black-ops team of super-villains with bombs implanted in their brains is obviously a deal-breaker for Earth’s paragons of truth and justice! But you can bet that the Wall and her Task Force X won’t go down without the fight to end all fights as this weekly series gets underway!

Don’t miss a Chanukah crisis for Batwoman, a Flash family Christmas, Wonder Woman interrupting John Constantine’s hellblazing pagan party and more—including the return of Detective Chimp! Today’s top talents bring you a very special holiday gift that’ll keep on giving through the New Year! And writer Paul Dini crafts a Harley holiday tale featuring DCU guests that bridges all the stories in the weirdest, wildest way.
Hey there readers so “Suicide Squad” opened just over two weeks ago at the time of this writing and since I am aiming at doing a lot more movie reviews when they are still in theaters here we are. I usually hit these films with our stalwart media companion Skeleton Pete but he couldn’t join me this time around. With this film, I decided to keep it local and went to the Alpine Theater in my own Bay Ridge neighborhood which was a better idea since the price of my ticket and some snacks were about the same as the ticket only at the Manhattan theater. Let’s go to the movies.
For those who are in the unaware, “Suicide Squad” is the third film in the currently being built DC Extended Universe. This began with “Man Of Steel” and continued into “Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice” which was released earlier this year and since that last one was received with a very mixed and negative opinion, one could only cross their fingers about this one and to briefly recap its premise, here is what the Wiki had to say about the film’s bottom line. We have arrived at the third installment of the DC Extended Universe and after the division that “Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice” left us with I can only hope that we shall be placed onto a more proper live action path with this one. Check out the poster, premise and cast and then I will return with a few more thoughts on the matter.
The Premise: “A secret government agency led by Amanda Waller recruits imprisoned supervillains to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for clemency and saving the world from an unknown but powerful threat”. (thanks Wiki) Continue reading Opening: “Suicide Squad” (8/5/2016)→
Welcome to August my comic loving friends and I hope that the summer has been treating you well so far. Can you believe that we are almost done with it? Before you blink, September is going to be here and it’s back to school for the readers who are doing that and more focus on the workaday world for the folks that enjoyed some quality break time during the summer months. I’m starting our comic book solicitations narratives with the stuff coming out from DC Comics this month because we are going to find the movie “Suicide Squad” opening up at the end of the week. This will be the third film in the growing DC Extended Universe and there are plenty of titles with characters from the film on the stands this month. We posted the films “Blitz Trailer” some weeks ago which you can see HERE if you missed it. As before I’m using the provided to the media press copy and artwork to bring all of this coolness to your attention. I’ll return at the close to offer up some additional personal Geek opinion. Here we go, and believe me you will want a new coffee or water for this since there are quite a few titles to line out. Please remember that these are for across the whole month and have not been broken down into a week by week availability.
ALL-STAR BATMAN #1: “My Own Worst Enemy” part one! Superstar writer Scott Snyder explodes into an all-new Batman series alongside legendary artist John Romita Jr., reimagining some of the Dark Knight’s greatest villains. First up: Two-Face! Batman must take Two-Face to a destination out of Gotham City, but the duplicitous villain has a two of spades up his sleeve. Every assassin, bounty hunter and ordinary citizen with something to hide is on their tails with one goal: kill Batman! Handcuffed together on the road to hell, this is Batman and Two-Face as you’ve never seen them before!

BLUE BEETLE: REBIRTH #1: Lost in the desert with no memory of the past few years, teenager Jaime Reyes must find his way home again—but when he reaches his town, he’s shocked to find it abandoned and in the hands of government officials…officials who are very interested in the Blue Beetle and the scarab that gives him his power! How can Jaime find his family and uncover the secret behind the town’s seizure—and why Kord Industries is helping keep the world from learning the truth? This is a one-shot issue.
Thanks to the fine folks at DC Comics, lucky comic book collecting fans can get a copy of “Harley Quinn and The Suicide Squad” Special Edition” #1 for absolutely free beginning this week. Be sure to ask your local comic book retailer shop for one when you go to pick up your weekly haul of books and since Wednesday is new comic book day that issue should be available later on today when the stores open. The freebie is to celebrate the upcoming live action appearance of Harley Quinn and the rest of the Suicide Squad in their new film “Suicide Squad” which opens up in theaters everywhere on August 5th and continues the building of the DC Expanded Universe. Actress Margot Robbie plays Harley Quinn and her alter ego Dr. Harleen Quinzel in the film. This will be the third film in this film universe but chronologically will have taken place before the stuff that went down in “Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice” (unless my research is at fault).
