You guys remember yesterday when the Internet was torn asunder with the thinly veiled announcement that Slayer would be heading out on their final tour right? I spoke about it HERE if you didn’t see what I added to the mix. Well, not 24 hours later we have the official press release, and the dates where they will be crushing our skulls for one final go round. You can check this out below the poster that we also shared yesterday.
The Press Release:
After making some of the most brutal, breathtakingly aggressive, all-hell’s-a-breaking-loose music ever created, playing nearly 3000 concerts in all corners of the world, receiving countless awards, gracing hundreds of magazine covers, experiencing the devastating loss of a founding brother, and even appearing on “The Tonight Show,” the age of Slayer, one of the greatest thrash/ metal/punk bands of this or any age, is coming to an end.
Slayer will do one last concert tour around the globe to thank their fans for all of their support over the years, for making the last three-and-a-half decades so packed with good times and unforgettable experiences, and will then move on. Lamb of God, Anthrax, Behemoth and Testament will support Slayer on the first leg, North America, of its final world tour. The “buzz” around the news started to circulate a couple of hours ago based on a video that Slayer had posted to their Official Facebook Page and while we’ve shared said video below, we’ve generally kept to the practice of waiting on a larger bit of press copy to raise your awareness. Check out the clip below.
The alert from our publicity channel over at the bands label Nuclear Blast Records pointed this out to be “The End Of Days” which according to The Bible is some pretty grim stuff. Just check out these quotes from John “Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour” and Matthew “For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.” – Hea-vy! The poster showcased just who will be a part of this final go round and its pretty much the combination of the last couple of Slayer tours when it comes down to it. It’s safe to say that there is a little something for everyone on this. If they like crushing and thrashing Metal of course.
Hey so we are back and continuing the summary of the new mini-series by Dark Horse Comics featuring the mighty Slayer with “Slayer: Repentless”, It’s issue number two now and if you missed my narrative about the debut issue you’ll want to click on THIS LINK to be more up to speed on the goings on. When we last left, our hero had just received his powers and was learning that with great powers comes great responsibility. Oh wait, that’s a different character altogether but our main protagonist did meet Slayer at the closing pages of the issue. Sort of like when Rey finally reached Luke Skywalker in “The Force Awakens” and the credits began to roll as soon as he turned around.
The “hero” of the tale is Wyatt and he is on a mission of vengeance having just suffered a tremendous loss and the odds against him are rather high since he is facing off against a militant Neo-Nazi order with whom he once had a close association to. Fortunately, he has the guys in Slayer to help fight the battle and as noted in the previous summary, this is the Slayer of now in today’s musical geography. The violence is at an all-time high in this one and the language somewhat colorful and as you read through you will likely chuckle at the occasional Slayer song lyric reference being dropped. I won’t spoil where they are for you of course and leave that to your reading. Continue reading An Overview Of Dark Horse Comics: “Slayer: Repentless” #2→
The scuttlebutt for this one has been making the rounds for a couple of days but I generally try to wait for 100% official press confirmation announcements since its a good policy. That being said, the Apocalypse will be set in motion this summer based on the fact that Slayer will be doing a headlining run with support from Lamb Of God and Behemoth. Check out the full on scoop below. I’ll be back with closing thoughts later.
The Press Release:
SLAYER…LAMB OF GOD…BEHEMOTH…Spreading The Apocalypse This Summer
LOS ANGELES, CA – Tuesday, February 28, 2017 — There are many perilous ways one can spend time off – Volcano-boarding down Cerro Negro, Nicaragua’s active volcano, or maybe bungee jumping from a helicopter over the bubbling crater of Chile’s Villarrica. How about a visit to Sao Paulo’s Snake Island, home of some 4000 golden lancehead vipers whose venom can melt human flesh, or shark diving without a cage in South Africa. But nothing is quite as hazardous or risky as a night in the pit at a Slayer concert. Add to that the ferociousness of Lamb of God and Behemoth, and you’ve got a Satan-approved triple bill of Biblical proportions.
The six-week expedition will rage across North America beginning July 12 in Bemidji, MN, winding up in Phoenix, AZ on August 20. Slayer and Lamb of God will also play Wisconsin’s Rock Fest 2017 (7/13) and Rock USA 2017 (7/15), and then meet up with Behemoth at the Chicago Open Air Festival on July 16. Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 3; log on to www.slayer.net/tour for all purchasing details.
Kerry King/Slayer Quote:
“As metal tours go, this is the one that your fellow metal heads will be bragging about if you miss it! Not very often I get to go on tour where we are all friends to start. That being said, the potential for greatness at these events is mind blowing. I look forward to being a part of it, and hanging with old friends- bands as well as fanatical fans! Let the festivities begin!!” Continue reading Behold Your Tour of Tours: Slayer, Lamb Of God and Behemoth!!!→
