We’ve received some cool information from the fine folks at Playmates Toys who are the master toy licensee for DreamWorks Animation’s “Voltron: Legendary Defender”. You probably remember this company’s name from all the times we’ve showcased their “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” line of action figures and accessories. This January, your toybox and other action figures will be much safer thanks to the protection of the “Voltron Classic ’84 Legendary Lion” collection. Let’s take a look at the release and the images that I’ve secured.

I’ve just received some press from the folks repping Playmates Toys (who we’ve written about extensively during our Toy Fair adventures over the years) as they present their own exclusive items. Check out the images and press copy below that they shared with me. I’ll close up with some thoughts of course.

By now I’m sure that any of you fans of the amazing Voltron giant robot have caught the original Netflix series “Voltron: Legendary Defender” and if not I say for shame. Please turn in your official geek card. Oh alright, I shall be forgiving – this time. The show has been met with considerable approval across the fans and that makes me excited to share the news about a new toy line from Playmates Toys (they’re the folks that bring you all of those awesome Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles items each and every year). Well, they’ve now released a line of action figures and other items of play based on the famous Jaeger and I got my hands on a couple of them to speak to you about. Behold!
What we have in these two photos is the “Black Lion” from the Basic Action Figure set. There are four more lions, a couple of Voltron variations (one is up next BTW) and a character that is new to me named Myzax. The Black Lion is the main lion in the giant Voltron configuration as its his chest and head and when you push the wings together on this figure the legs move in a clawing action. Pretty cool and before I leave this much out – all of these basic lion figures DO NOT combine to form a larger Voltron figure. They have that as well, but I didn’t have it for review examination. Here is a closer look at the packaging. I decided not to open it because it will likely end up being a gift to a worthy fan or younger relative. Unless I get the rest of them, then I cannot break up a complete set. That’s just how I am LOL. It’s pretty cool and I’ve always loved this character.
Next up we have the “Lion Attack Voltron” and this is a pretty cool miniature version of the robot with a missile option on its left arm. What I mean is that the green lion is a projectile so please use with caution. It’s okay to shoot this at your GI Joe and Star Wars action figures but it is NOT OKAY to shoot it at your cat, dog or little brother and sister. No exceptions.
I’ve also left this one as a MOC item (which means Mint On Card to you non-collectors) and that is pretty much to keep the missile safely in place. While I will not shoot it at my own cat, that doesn’t prevent her from finding it and losing it on me during her own nighttime prowling. I really don’t know where this cat has taken several smaller items in my apartment and I am determined to locate them – someday. All in all a super cool looking miniature Voltron that might look nice on your desk in your office if you keep this kind of stuff there as well. Nowadays this is much more acceptable.
Be sure to hit your local Walmart, Toys R Us or even Amazon.com for these and the rest of the figures. I will do my best to get one of the larger figures that can be placed together as components so stay tuned for that. Now back to the defending of the Metal Universe.
Welcome back to the PiercingMetal in-depth coverage of the 2016 Toy Fair where you can see the latest and most awesome developments in the super-hero action figure stuff along with those items that relate to our very favorite Science Fiction and Horror franchises. I am up to the Playmates Toys section of my coverage and I actually visited them on the first day of the convention right after I explored the Hasbro showroom. I started on one end of their display and worked my way around the whole thing. I don’t need to chime in all that much as so many things are self-explanatory and I don’t actually know the names of every single character at this point in time. Outside of the main TMNT of course. These are the six-inch action figures and there are quite a few I would like for my own collection.
Hello my friends and welcome back once again to the expansive coverage from the 2014 Toy Fair that takes place at the Javits Center. I’m up to the eighth installment based on just how much I get to see that speaks to our geek side and this chapter will focus on the findings from the Playmates Toys booth. They are the providers of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” line of action figures, vehicles and assorted other halfshell coolness so let’s yell a rousing “COWABUNGER” and head on inside.
