New Year’s Music Resolutions For 2013: Part 11

Hails and Hello to The Metal Republic, my hope is that our continuing series opening finds you all well. Now that we are at Chapter Eleven, I have to admit that I never expected the responses to be this awesome but of course I am very glad for them when it all comes down to it. Okay, enough from me, let’s get back into the “New Year’s Music Resolutions for 2013” as contributed by some great talents.

1. Tyler Burrow (Publicist): “It is such a great feeling to be embraced by the music scene in NYC. Such an amazing community of people with brilliant minds and beautiful souls. I look forward to being part of discovering and nurturing new talents in the New Year and help others speak the language that the entire world understands, and that’s music.”

2. Kevin Quirion (Deicide, Order of Ennead, Shadow Society): For 2013, I want to finish up some songs that have been just sitting around for awhile. Also I would like to find one new band that I really enjoy. Its been awhile. Oh yeah, try and see Ghost this year too.

3. Benny Rose (Ghosts Of Eden): “To have 2013 be the year of the Ghosts! To make my late father proud of being able to push all these years and struggle to be a part of something so special. To be the pioneers of bringing Velvet Grunge out as a genre.”

Order Of Ennead @ Santos Party House (9/2/2010)

Artist: The Order Of Ennead
Venue: Santos Party House (New York, NY)
Opener: Mobile Deathcamp
Date: 9/2/2010
Label: Earache Records

The Order Of Ennead is a relatively new band that was started up by drummer Steve Asheim who is prominently known as a member of the blasphemously incendiary Deicide. With OOE, he joined forces with guitarists Kevin Quirion and John Li and took his Metal in a fantastic new direction. Don’t worry if you were thinking this might veer off an expected course because the material is intense and heavy as all hell. Having recently sunk my teeth into their second album “An Examination Of Being” I was more than interested in seeing them perform on the live stage. I would get my chance at this seemingly last minute of a gig that was also supposed to feature their Earache Records label mates Wormrot but something prevented that band from leaving their native Singapore so we would instead only have Mobile Deathcamp as openers and OOE doing their headlining set. The show was set for Santo’s Party House and I would arrive only minutes after Mobile Deathcamp had took to the stage. Here’s what I saw.

“Earache Summer Sampler 2010” by Various Artists

Artist: Various Artists
Title: “Earache Summer Sampler 2010”
Label: Earache Records
Release Date: 6/29/2010
Genre: Heavy Metal/Thrash/Grindcore
Rating: 3.75/5

If Metal is your business, then business is good or at least a whole lot better thanks to the folks over at Earache Records who are delivering this incendiary sampler of their latest bands and releases. You’ve likely been long aware of this label as they have been the herald of the underground scene for more years than I can count and at one time delivered the likes of Decapitated, Napalm Death, and even Carcass. This is a sampler that is meant to be played at critical volumes and by that I mean one that makes your neighbors fear your listening routine just a little more than they might already do. Scanning around the presentations we find Evile from the United Kingdom and a band I have seen a number of times. They are champions of the old sound but have a modern twist to them, and those dudes in White Wizzard make you feel as though you rolled back into the eighties in a good way. Conventional Thrash comes through with shining colors thanks to Bonded By Blood and Gama Bomb and while one band cites recollections of Exodus the latter band reminds of classic era Overkill in some sense. Melodic Death Metal is delivered to perfection by Order Of Ennead and one should expect this given its the side-project of members of Deicide and rising star shredder John Li. There is some molten heaviness care of Grind Core Singaporeans Wormrot and we get two songs from them. Don’t take a deep breath as its likely to be longer than the tunes provided and the rest you shall just have to learn about on your own.
