It’s Halloween and with this post I am giving you a treat that will not promote tooth decay nor lead you to issues with your waistline. In the spirit of my inquiries that featured “Music Resolutions”; I’ve polled a number of Metal and Rock musicians in my world and asked them “What is your favorite Horror movie and why”. So get some popcorn, dim the lights and sit under a cozy blanket as we learn of some awesome talents favorite creepy film. It’s a lengthy list but splitting this one into parts didn’t make sense. Let’s go.
Chris Caffery (Savatage/Trans-Siberian Orchestra): “Halloween”. Because it was the only movie that not only scared me in the theaters it scared me afterwards in real life. In my opinion it’s the best horror film ever made. In the sense of true horror. A real killer. There was no superhuman bs in the first one. Just pure evil.
Gogo Melone (Aeonian Sorrow): From old films was “Dracula”… I really like the atmosphere and as a kid I was a big fan of vampires. The movie that scared my ass off the most and had nightmares for days with, were “The Ring” and “The Exorcism of Emily Rose”…I don’t think I’ll ever see them twice again ??
Jimmy Kunes (Cactus): God there’s so many. “Fearless Vampire Killers”, I know it’s a spoof. But what a film!!!
Elise Ryd (Amaranthe): “The Shining”. Those two kids are the most scary thing I’ve seen. And I don’t like that dude Johnny towards the end. “Here’s Johnny” 🤣 And this is true.. Every time I’m in a hotel with long corridors I expect those kids to show up in the end of the hallway. Haha, that image is haunting me, STILL! It’s Enshrined in my memory.
A short while ago the email arrived announcing that there was a brand new video by Epica to enjoy from their forthcoming album “The Holographic Principle”. The clip is for “The Edge Of The Blade” – Check it out below.
Commented Coen Janssen (synths, piano):
“Finally another video! We are very happy with the way it turned out! It gives a glimpse on what to expect from our upcoming live shows, so watch it a few times because I’m expecting to see you sing along with it soon!”
PiercingMetal Thoughts: Quick views on this one since I’m not at the Metal Command desk all that much today. Loved the sleekness of the tune and the style being displayed in the video. The lighting actually reminded me of what it is like to see Epica on the concert stage and the only thing missing was all the banners and backdrop stuff. Simone looks at dynamic as ever and the tune is a nice additional tease from the album “The Holographic Principle” which I am very much looking forward to owning. I’ve been a fan of the band since “The Phantom Agony” and have enjoyed listening to their growth on album after album. Hmmm, I better save some of these quotes for my longer review narratives. You only have a few weeks left to wait for the arrival of the new CD so order it via the link below and how about doing the same for the new Sonata Arctica. See you next time.
Now here is a tour that really excites me since its one of my favorite Symphonic Metal bands and their bringing along a solid bunch of support acts. I’ll let the official press release speak for itself after the poster so check it out below. Don’t worry I will return with some additional thoughts at the close.
The Press Release:
Dutch symphonic metal heavyweights EPICA will return this fall for The North American Principle Tour in support of their upcoming album The Holographic Principle which will see a worldwide release on September 30th through Nuclear Blast. EPICA will be joined on this trek by Italian symphonic death metal kings FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE, Russian pagan warriors ARKONA and their good friends in THE AGONIST. The first three dates will see Germany’s XANDRIA as a replacement for ARKONA. Tour kicks off on November 4th in Quebec City and will conclude on December 3rd in Worcester, MA. Now here is a little bit of touring news that I was hoping to see happen sooner than later. It seems that Epica will be returning to this neck of the woods in the beginning of 2016 to make up the dates that had to be dropped during their most recent Fall run. Check out the poster and the official statement and then we can discuss a little more.
Got back from a totally kick butt event down at The Studio at Webster Hall (concert narrative coming soon I promise) and as I scrolled through the wonders of Facebooks timeline I saw this bummer of an announcement from Epica who have cancelled the remaining dates on their North American tour. The official press statement is below along with the remaining dates on the run. Check it out.
Dear North American fans; It is with heavy hearts that we have to announce the cancellation of all remaining shows of our North American tour. A couple of days ago Simone had to fly back to the Netherlands to be with her family due to an emergency. Sadly there has been no major improvement in that situation so it is impossible for Simone to return to the tour at this moment. Therefore we have no other option than to cancel the remaining dates. However, the Revolver tour will carry on as scheduled with Eluveitie, The Agonist and Martina Edoff. We will again be rescheduling the North American tour in support of the Quantum Enigma for the beginning of next year. If you wish to refund your tickets you can do this through the venue. VIP-tickets purchased through Soundrink will be refunded automatically. Tickets for this tour will not be valid for the rescheduled dates. We want to thank all our fans and partners for their understanding and support in this difficult situation. Sincerely, EPICA

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Not much I can say since this is a family emergency and I always maintain that its family first in life. I hope for the very best for Simone and her family and that we fans on this side of the globe get to enjoy their incredible sounds sooner rather than later. I also hope that the fans choose to stick with these remaining dates as both Eluveitie and The Agonist are great live acts that I have seen numerous times over the years. I am expecting them to pull out all the stops in proper respect to Epica to give the fans a show that they will not soon forget. That’s all I’ve got.
