After the rather intense happenings of last week I was almost thankful that there was a few days breather for me after the chaos experienced at the GWAR show. That was probably the wildest and most dangerous room I had walked into for a show in a long, long time (and remember that I was saying this after only seeing Municipal Waste a couple of days prior). Now with my composure regained and the fright of a moving barricade gone from my mind for the most part I was at the ready to welcome back the one and only Marduk who were back as they had promised us a number of months ago when they did those three East Coast shows. Their return was for a full length tour called the “US Plague Tour” and it found Nachtmystium, Merrimack, Mantic Ritual and Black Anvil setting up the night for them across the hapless cities of America. Like many shows in NYC tonight’s gig would have a local opened but we missed Dimention entirely and arrived just in time to see Black Anvil take the stage. Here is how the night progressed for any foolish enough to have missed it.

Destruction @ B.B. King Blues Club (4/7/2009)

Destruction are one of the true leaders in no holds barred Thrash Metal so it was great to find the German trio invading the stage B.B. King Blues Club tonight. The show would be my first time ever catching them in concert and that kind of gig is always exciting when its presenting something new to your eyes and ears. Destruction would be touring with both Krisiun and Mantic Ritual as their support so to learn more just scroll on down.

Although I have enjoyed almost every release that I get to hear from the band I have never ever seen Destruction in concert before and in most cases it had been the combination of other events happening on the same day or the fact that the band does not get over to these parts as often as the fans might like. Tonight we would rectify this as the guys prepared to lay waste to the stage and bring with them support from Krisiun and Mantic Ritual. Of course I had already caught Krisiun a number of times and learned about the fire of Metal youth from the guys who make up Mantic Ritual a few months ago so based on that I was glad to see this show happening over at Times Square’s favorite Metal venue – B.B. King Blues Club. I arrived nice and early to enjoy all three sets and here is how the night went down for those curious. Mantic Ritual would get it all started.

Rotting Christ @ B.B. King Blues Club (1/8/2009)

Artist: Rotting Christ
Venue: B.B. King Blues Club (New York, NY)
Opener: Epicurean & Mantic Ritual
Date: 1/08/2009
Label: Season Of Mist Records

The return of Rotting Christ to New York City would be my first show of the Metal year 2009 and oddly enough it would happen once again at B.B. King Blues Club where the band had played just around the same time last year. That show was pretty much an interesting experience as it found a unique combination of European Black Metal meeting the US brand with a heaping dose of NY Death Metal thrown in for good measure. Tonight the guys in Rotting Christ would be returning to our shores with bands that were not only new to many listeners but also rather new to their recording contracts. This would amount to the newcomers looking to build upon their own craft and audience by hopefully snaring a few of the people who were in attendance for Rotting Christ. The bands were Metal Blade Records and Nuclear Blast Records’ own Epicurean and Mantic Ritual and with only three bands for the full show I was surprised that it was actually going to start as early as it would.
