Attention all ye Metalheads, the mighty Iced Earth has announced “The Worldwide Plagues Tour” that will be hitting our side of the Atlantic in 2014. According to the press release they will be bringing along Sabaton as direct support and Revamp as the lead in opener. This is going to be a good one for sure. More after the poster.
Good morning to you dear readers of the PiercingMetal Blog, and welcome to our titanic third chapter in the “New Year’s Music Resolutions for 2013”. They say that the third time is the charm and I am good with that so let’s get right on down to business shall we. Proceed with interest more than any level of caution.
1. Keith Williams (Schism): My New Year’s Metolution: Be kind, be supportive, be happy, thankful, gracious & grateful…see more shows, perform better quality shows at quality venues, try and get paid what we’re worth perhaps?
2. David Ellefson (Megadeth): Play harder, play better!
3. Sam Roon (Hung): Thanks for including HUNG in this year’s festivities on Piercing Metal!!! I think for 2013 the entire Metal scene has a lot of work to do. The music industry has recognized the lack of support from the fans, and Ken, as someone who goes to every show in New York City, I’m sure you know all about the dwindling headcount. For 2013 my music resolution… or moreover, my musical mission, is to devote as much time as I possibly can to getting Metal in New York City back to the support strength that people from outside the area perceive us to have. It’s our responsibility to keep our scene alive, support the local bands around us, and to keep going to shows. Be a part of what’s happening. Twenty years from now when you look back at New York City at the time where you were a part of what was going on, you know you’ll want to be proud to have been a part of something. You were a part of a movement… a unique moment in time. The only way to achieve that feeling is to invest a little effort now, and THAT my friend, is my musical resolution for 2013. Thanks again for including HUNG and supporting the area Metal scene Ken. PiercingMetal has always been kind to the locals, and we respect you for it! For the readers, keep supporting this site and going to the shows in the calendar! Look for a new HUNG record early next year and SUPPORT LOCAL METAL!!! Happy fucking new year.

Even though we got into this band a little later than we would have liked to we feel that we began our own interest in them at a very crucial point in their career. The band is Traditional Power Metal and is the brainchild of guitarist Jon Schaffer. The musician is very passionate about his beliefs and ideals and this reflects in the bands music. His love of history and science fiction found him being able to deliver his fans some really unique albums and this made our own adventures in supporting the band a lot more fun. The band has had a number of lineup changes since their inception but this is all in accordance with what Jon’s overall vision is for the body of work he is doing. They have a lot of great stuff and we’ve been glad to support it. To learn what we have said about them you can just click the logo below to launch the query of all Iced Earth content on PiercingMetal.com – we hope you like it.
Iced Earth was not only making a triumphant return to the concert stages of NYC but was also celebrating the return of vocalist Matt Barlow. This was earth shattering news for the Metal Legions and as result offered the band a packed house at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square this evening. The opening slot was held by Into Eternity and we were on point to bring you into the action. Scroll past the logo below to be taken to article.
Artist: Iced Earth
Venue: Nokia Theatre (New York, NY)
Opener: Into Eternity and Saviors
Label: SPV Records
New York City has definitely got a lock on being the place for Metal, especially when one reviews not only the passed few weeks but also the upcoming events that we are to be treated to. I don’t say this lightly because it was only a week ago that I was at B.B. King’s for legendary guitarist Uli Jon Roth and last night was Kamelot at the same venue. Tonight would continue the musical adventuring for many as the one and only Iced Earth was set to perform at what appeared to be a completely packed room. The band’s visionary founder Jon Schaffer had recently delivered to the fans a two part prequel to his “Something Wicked” storyline and presented “Framing Armageddon” as the first chapter which featured Tim “Ripper” Owens on vocals. The recording was a pummeling one but no touring would be done until the storyline was completed and with this decision Schaffer shocked the Metal world by dismissing Owens and replacing him with former Iced Earth vocal master Matt Barlow. The second chapter of the prequel would be called “The Crucible of Man” and would feature Matt’s voice and also show the return of former Iced Earth drummer Brent Smedley. The tour would also take Into Eternity out on the road with them and I was very happy for this hard working band that I had seen in opening slots more times than I could easily recall. If you missed out on this amazing night, here are some of its highlights. The show would begin with a band called Saviors and based on a hectic itinerary for the evening would find my not catching a single note of them. I’ve not heard the name before this evening so assume that they are a new band and will probably be someone I will catch as an opener on one of the many shows that I plan on attending. I made it in just in time to see Into Eternity take the stage.
