The Scoop: The mighty Turisas is back in NYC to deliver a dose of Finnish Battle Metal like never before and they are doing so with the help of Gus G. and his band Firewind and the lead off group of experimental musical maniacs in Stolen Babies. Whew is all I can say when I think of this package too much and I am as always excited to welcome such talent back to our region. I’ve seen all three of these bands on a number of occasions so I know full well that the fans will not be disappointed. It’s also exciting to inform the readers that thanks to the fine folks at Livenation, PiercingMetal.com will be putting a couple of its readers into the show. Check out how to enter our contest below.
When and Where: Wednesday, February 6th at 7pm @ The Gramercy Theatre ( 127 East 23rd Street, NYC)

New Year’s Music Resolutions For 2013: Part 10

Whew. How are you all doing? Are you still with me as we press on towards the final stages of our “New Year’s Music Resolutions for 2013”? Man I sure hope so because this has been a ride like no other and I am loving getting the plans of the Metal and Rock greats out to your computer or mobile device screens. Here we go with Chapter Ten. Enjoy.

1. Jason Lekberg (Ikillya): My resolution for 2013 is to make the best album of my career thus far and hopefully share it with as many people as possible. 🙂

2. Michael Scondotto (The Last Stand/Inhuman): My New Year’s Music Resolution is to play as many shows as possible with The Last Stand, as our debut full length “The Time Is Now” comes out on January 22nd on Eulogy Recordings. Aside from that, look for another Inhuman vinyl edition and maybe my Metal project will surface sometime in 2013???

3. Alberto Rigoni (Solo Artist): Hey world, wanna still hear some good quality music in the future? Please support the bands and artists purchasing their music, digital or CD.. otherwise they will disappear!

An Overview Of IDW Publishing’s “Eternal Descent” Issue #3

Welcome back, I am continuing and actually finishing up with the discussions about the first few issues of the IDW Published title “Eternal Descent” and since I had been out of the regular collecting mode for a few years l was not as up on this as I would have liked to be. The premise of the comic is that of an “Urban Gothic Fantasy” and it’s the brainchild of musician/writer Llexi Leon. Leon is the founder of a label called Incendiary Records and he has created the virtual band Eternal Descent to tell his stories. Over time he realized that music would not be able to deliver the stories in the same fashion as the comics and here we are. It’s an epic fantasy and mystery that pits good against evil and does so with some of the Metal world’s biggest stars as guest characters along the way. I got my hands on the first three issues of the title and offer up some overview on each of them along with some cover art. This is the summary of the third issue. Enjoy.

Issue #3: Loki starts off the action by taking over the mind of an as yet unnamed Rocker but it’s obvious he is a member of the Power Metal band Firewind. More clues unravel about the mysteries of Lyra Constance who now seems to be travelling with Sirian in order to make more sense about her past and present. The two meet up with guitarist Gus G. in order to help out their singer Apollo (who was the victim at the stories opener). Some magic guitar from our Metallic Angel helps the band to get back onstage and smite the demons with fire, lightning and other powerful energy bolts. The crowd merely thinks they got one hell of a light show during the Firewind gig. The adventure continues.

Sonata Arctica @ B.B. King Blues Club (9/30/2007)

Sonata Arctica was doing a headlining appearance in NYC and the exciting night found the talents of Firewind, Unexpect and The Agonist joining them on the stage of New York’s B.B. King Blues Club. Supporting all of the talented musicians performing tonight in both words and images was paramount for me as a journalist so we did just that. If you want to learn more just scroll past the logo below.

Artist: Sonata Arctica
Venue: B. B. King Blues Club (New York, NY)
Opener: Firewind, Agonist, Unexpect
Date: 9/30/2007
Label: Nuclear Blast Records

Fans of the Finnish Melodic Progressive Rock sensation Sonata Arctica would have their prayers answered as the band once again made their trek to the USA for some much appreciated touring. While this appearance in NYC would be their third actual visit it was only the bands second headlining appearance but like the previous two shows would be held at the ever popular B.B. King Blues Club & Grill. As was also the case with the other visits the band would be supporting a brand new release and this time around it would be a new studio recording entitled “Unia”. It’s an album that finds the band exploring ever deeper into the realms of Progressive Hard Rock as opposed to the Metal they were most commonly associated with and it’s also available on Nuclear Blast Records their label of the past three years. The band is always an energetic and lively one in concert but to make this all the more special they would be joined by Firewind from Greece as well as both The Agonist and Unexpect from Canada. Having heard each of these bands albums before and judging by the crowd who had already gathered in time for the first band you just knew this was going to be another awesome night of Metal and one that offered the fans a wide variety of genre aspects.
