Hey there my friends in geeking out, I am happy to share that the first ever BoroughCon must have been a success a few months ago as they recently announced that it will return for a second year AND move to a more accomodating location. Check it out below, and I’ll return with some thoughts at the close.

After a successful inagural first year at St. John’s University in Queens, BoroughCon plans to host its second event at the Brooklyn Expo center over Father’s Day Weekend, June 15-17. Having attracted 4,000 unique attendees in its first year, BoroughCon plans to attract as many as 8,000 attendees in its second year by drawing in more fans of animation, gaming, television and all things geeky.

BoroughCon’s programing will include panels hosted by enthusiastic panelists, autograph sessions and photo-ops with celebrities, screenings of popular shows and films, a bustling vendors’ room, and a convention staple, the cosplay contest. Presenting The Five Points Festival 2017

Those who’ve been reading our narratives for a lengthy bit of time know how we just love a good convention here at the Metal Command HQ. We’ve been hitting the NY Comic Con for years and just this past 2016 got to enjoy the Star Trek: Mission New York event which was a brand new convention. Recently I’ve been seeing some posts about this upcoming event and I wanted to bring it to your attention in the event that its also new news to you. It sure sounds like a lot of fun so check out the Official Scoop from their website and some art. I’ll return at the close.

What Is The Five Points Festival?
“The Five Points Festival is a collision of toys, comics, and counterculture curated by Clutter Magazine and presented by Midtown Comics. A designer toy and comic convention in New York’s Lower East Side, Five Points is two days and nights of comic artists and writers, vinyl and plastic toys, original art, resin, plush, blind boxes, graphic novels, indie comics, blanks, minis, kaiju, Japanese vinyl, posters, prints, apparel, food trucks, and craft breweries – capped off by the 2017 Designer Toy Awards. The antidote to the average con, Five Points brings tastemakers, misfits, and rebels together with the new, retro, and infamous in a one-of-a-kind marketplace.”

PiercingMetal Thoughts: I’m really interested in this new event and will be looking into attending provided I have the weekend open to do so. Though I cannot confirm this at the moment I am composing these thoughts, I don’t think that Special Edition NYC is returning in 2017 as they missed 2016 with that side convention to NY Comic Con. Having the Five Points Festival happening in May is a great thing since that gives many fans a summer convention in NYC that helps gear them up for the massive NYCC provided they can even get tickets for that one. My expectations are that a lot of this will be like “The Block” at NYCC where we see a ton of designer items and offerings. I’m also hoping for some cool food trucks and craft beer vendors to enjoy a bit to eat and a brew with my fellow geeks who are of age to do that sort of thing. So what do you think of this convention my friends? Is it something you are going to mark down on your calendar and plan on attending? Let me know in the comments section below. See you next time.

The Press Release:
Clutter Magazine and LeftField Media today announced the debut of the Five Points Festival, a new convention focused on designer toys and comic art launching next year in New York City’s Lower East Side. The first Five Points Festival will take place May 20-21, 2017 inside Pier 36’s Basketball City, and the event presents itself as the antidote to the average con – a showcase for artists, creators, independent brands, and the counterculture they make.

Five Points will bring together influential names across the designer toy and comic worlds, with a roster already pledging their support. Clutter Magazine, a leading voice in the designer toy world, will curate the Five Points Festival’s toy guests and exhibits, with brands Kidrobot, Super7, Popaganda, Cotton Candy Machine, and Toy Tokyo taking part, and Ron English and Tara McPherson leading the art toy luminaries who’ll appear as guests. On the comic side, Five Points will be presented overall by Midtown Comics, the largest comic retailer in America, and confirmed comic artists and writers in attendance – known for their independent, avant garde, and creator-owned work – will include Bryan Lee O’Malley, Amy Reeder, Brandon Montclare, Kate Leth, Cliff Chiang, Ivan Brandon, Christopher Hastings, and James Tynion IV.

Further designer toy and comic brands and creators will be announced over the coming weeks and months, as will details about show exclusives, parties, and special events. “The Five Points Festival is a celebration of art and its creators,” said Josh Kimberg, Clutter’s Managing Partner. “There’s a commonality, a shared creative culture, that crosses between designer toys and comics, and we’re honored to bring them together and build a home for the fans, collectors, and misfits ignited by this spirit.”
