Opening: “David Bowie Is” @ Brooklyn Museum (3/2/2018)

You might have heard that this was coming to Brooklyn over the last few months as its been widely reported and now my friends the day is here as the “David Bowie Is” exhibit is open to the public at the amazing Brooklyn Museum. I’ve culled the exhibits description from their own site and will return at the close with some thoughts.

About The Show:
Organized with unprecedented access to David Bowie’s personal archive, this exhibition explores the creative process of an artist whose sustained reinventions, innovative collaborations, and bold characterizations revolutionized the way we see music, inspiring people to shape their own identities while challenging social traditions. David Bowie is has been touring globally for the past five years and is taking its final bow at the Brooklyn Museum, providing an opportunity to view this one-of-a-kind material.

David Bowie is presents approximately 400 objects drawn primarily from the David Bowie Archive, including the artist’s original costumes, handwritten lyric sheets from famous songs, original album art, photographs, and videos, all tracing Bowie’s creative process from his teenage years in England through his last twenty years, when he resided in New York City. The archive is presented within an immersive, multimedia installation that includes continuous audio along with projected animation and video.

Mike Garson is the CELEBRATING DAVID BOWIE band leader after having made his mark on numerous Bowie albums, including his much talked about masterly solo on the “Aladdin Sane” track. Garson was Bowie’s longest and most frequent band member. They performed together for both David’s first and last concerts in the United States as well as 1,000 concerts around the globe in between. Read an interview with the U.K.’s NME that Garson recently conducted here.

Celebrating David Bowie Adds Earl Slick & Bernard Fowler To Tour

To many fans of his music, the loss of David Bowie is still a thing that’s hard to come to terms with and that makes this exciting celebration of his music all the more wonderful. Check out the official press release along with the dates. I’ll return at the close with some editorial thoughts.

The Press Release:
Celebrating David Bowie is excited to announce the addition of musicians Earl Slick (guitar) and Bernard Fowler (vocalist) to the North American leg of the recently announced 2018 tour. After performing rapturously received and critically lauded shows earlier this year, Celebrating David Bowie returns with a brand new Bowie show spanning his entire career with a new show in Mexico City that was also just announced. All tickets are on sale now with Mexico City going on sale Monday November 6th. To purchase tickets, visit the link at the narrative close. See the full list of tour dates below and view the trailer here:http://tiny.cc/CdBNorthAmerica

More than just a mere salute, Celebrating David Bowie keeps Bowie’s music alive with musicians who worked closely with him throughout his career and other top musicians greatly influenced by him.

Guitarist Earl Slick worked on landmark Bowie albums such as Diamond Dogs, Young Americans and Reality, among others, and toured extensively with him. Says Slick: “I’m happy to announce that I am officially joining my longtime DB band mates starting on the February leg of the ‘Celebrating David Bowie’ tour. So put on your red shoes and I’ll see you all then.” Vocalist Bernard Fowler is known for his work with The Rolling Stones and other iconic artists. Both Slick and Fowler will join legendary Bowie touring and recording keyboardist, and CdB band leader, Mike Garson–who collaborated with Bowie for longer than any other player–guitarist and previous Bowie band leader Gerry Leonard (A Reality Tour), and Bowie’s Let’s Dance/Serious Moonlight Tour bassist Carmine Rojas. Between them, they have over 30 years experience of recording, writing and playing live with Bowie.

Also joining the tour will be CdB 2017 standout Fishbone‘s Angelo Moore and 2017 Grammy nominee Gaby Moreno as well as special guests and other former Bowie band members who will make surprise appearances along the way.
