Entertainment Weekly’s First Look @ “X-Men: Apocalypse”

I’ve been a casual reader of Entertainment Weekly for the last couple of years and love how they are often giving us a first glimpse at some of the superhero films that I have been speaking to in our “On Screen” postings. With that being said, the other day we saw a first look at the 2016 film “X-Men: Apocalypse” and I wanted to share that cover visual with you. Take a look.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Just in case you readers are not too up on who Apocalypse even is, well he is the big bad in the world of the X-Men and a whole lot more dangerous than Magneto ever could possibly be. He is from many thousands of years ago and in some sense is thought of to be the first mutant. In this film he is played by Oscar Isaac and the outfit looks alright I guess. I think I was expecting a bigger more threatening look like we got in the pages of “X-Factor” where he first appeared. That’s Michael Fassbender to his left aka Magneto and the girl is Olivia Munn who will be portraying Betsy Braddock or Psylocke. So glad she is finally appearing in these X-Men films since she is a character I liked. I expect this film will find a lot of young ladies doing cosplay of her come the 2016 NY Comic Con. It will be a nice change of pace over all the Harley Quinns out there. So what do you think my fine readers? Are you liking the way this looks at all? There is no trailer yet but I am sure that will come soon enough. We have a bit of time before this one is released and it looks like 2016 will be a great year for superhero films. On a side note I will try to keep stuff like this coming when they give us a first reveal if you don’t mind me doing so. Since its film related they will be relegated to the “On Screen” section of the website and keep company to the film trailers and release announcements. Until next time I bid you adieu.

“Apocalypse” by Holyhell

Artist: Holyhell
Title: “Apocalypse”
Label: Magic Circle Music
Release Date:
Genre: Power Metal
Rating: 3.5/5

When you listen to Holyhell there are a number of comparisons that can be immediately drawn and the first one comes via its musicality being very similar to that of Nightwish. The female fronted Power Metal band while using some elements of it are not entirely a Symphonic Metal outfit and instead keep the format a little more conventional with the occasional delving into the symphonic side for larger atmosphere. The four song EP “Apocalypse” is a good way to absorb what they are all about and gives the listener the beautiful lead singer in Maria Broen and guitar hero via Joe Stump. Maria has a nice voice and comes off as very powerful in her vocal register which is vastly different from the Operatic branding that listeners have come to grow used to in bands that have female leads. The first track is very much like Nightwish even in its format and that might set fans of the band on their ear since it came be viewed as unoriginal even though it’s a fine track. “Resurrection” is a straight forward Metal tune with some blistering guitar work from Stump and a powerful chorus finale. The tune was recorded live at Monsters Of Rock in 2005.
