Having missed Amorphis when they last visited our neck of the woods, I was happy to see this tour announcement that hit my mailbox in the wee hours of the morning. Let’s take a look at it.
The Press Release:
AMORPHIS announce N. American tour w/ DARK TRANQUILLITY, MOONSPELL and OMNIUM GATHERUM
Melancholic progressive metallers AMORPHIS will return to North America with a co-headlining trek with DARK TRANQUILLITY this September/October. Joining them are Portugal’s premiere gothic-metallic-force MOONSPELL, and Finnish melo-death contingent OMNIUM GATHERUM.
AMORPHIS will be touring in support of their soon to be announced new album, produced and mixed once again by Jens Bogren (OPETH, AMON AMARTH, KATATONIA). More details to be announced shortly, so stay tuned!
Guitarist Esa Holopainen commented: “We are extremely excited to start the world tour with new album from North America. There’s been lot of requests to hit the states again after our last tour spring 2017. This time we come over with a killer package. Touring with DARK TRANQUILLITY, MOONSPELL and OMNIUM GATHERUM is almost like having a road trip with best mates around. Every band has a strong fanbase so there will be something for everyone.”

The Amorphis show has been moved to LPR from Stage 48 but all purchased tickets shall be honored at this new scheduling. Don’t miss this amazing Finnish band. Support shall come from Swallow The Sun, Grey Skies Fallen and Winter Nights.
Due to inclement weather conditions this show was originally postponed but now has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled. Refunds are available at point of purchase. 🙁
Overkill brings their tour to Sayreville and for this one they will not only be joined by Nile, but also by the mighty Amorphis and Swallow The Sun. Local talent will start the night off early so be prompt to not miss a second.
The concert tour announcements never seem to stop do they? Oh I’m not complaining at all because there is nothing I like more than checking out a Metal show with some friends. With that being said, this recent announcement by the mighty Amorphis was welcome news. Add to this the inclusion of Swallow The Sun and I say “sign me up”. Check out the press release below and I’ll return with some thoughts at the close.
The Press Release:
The masters of melancholic progressive metal, AMORPHIS, will return to North America next March/April for a long overdue headlining tour. Support will come from fellow Fin’s and melodic doom/death merchants SWALLOW THE SUN. The band will also appear on select dates with thrash legends OVERKILL and Egyptian themed technical death metal champions NILE.
“It’s been a long time since we toured in North America and Canada,” comments guitarist Esa Holopainen. “To be honest, way too long and at some point we thought we might never be back. In show business, things are not that simple and no matter how much AMORPHIS would like to tour, or play shows in different territories, usually it just doesn’t make sense.

Venue: B.B. King Blues Club (New York, NY)
Opener: Samael, Virgin Black
Label: Nuclear Blast Records
If you live in a city like New York and are a big supporter of any genre’s music scene then you are truly a very lucky person because there is seldom a night where you find yourself with nothing to do or nothing to see – especially when it comes to live music. The city offers up countless bars, venues, and theatres where music across a wide-genre scope is delivered almost nightly and if you are thinking there is no downside to this, well there is when two major events are scheduled for the exact same night. For me, this particular show would conclude the “Finnish Invasion” that I spoke of in both my Apocalyptica and Sonata Arctica commentaries. Sadly, Nightwish had indeed cancelled their appearance based on the illness of singer Anette but we did get a killer set from Sonata. Tonight’s fun at B.B. King Blues Club would also find a killer show that featured Kataklysm, Keep Of Kalessin and Eluveitie going on at the same time over at the Blender Theater and this was really going to make the Metal heads choose because all of the bands combined had the same loyal fan base. For me the choice was simple and locked on Amorphis because the band has not been over here since early 2005 by my recollection and since that time have released two more albums. The show tonight would bring along label mates Samael and Virgin Black from Australia. Here is how the night went down if you had missed it.
