R.I.P. Adam Yauch (MCA) of The Beastie Boys (5/4/2012)

A friend once said to me that when I noticed someone’s name going around like wildfire in Twitter that it was usually a sign that the person had died and such would be the case this morning when I learned of the passing of MCA or Adam Yauch, one of the founders of The Beastie Boys. He was diagnosed with a form of salivary gland cancer back in 2009 and had been receiving treatment for it but alas it would eventually win the battle. He was only 47 years of age and that my friends is far too young to leave this plane.

While The Beastie Boys were not a Metal act in any sense of the word, they were exceptionally talented individuals who started out in more of a Hardcore Punk fashion before offering up their tasteful rhymes with the “Licensed To Ill” album that every rocker of the time seemed to own a copy of. This was largely based on Slayer’s Kerry King doing a solo or two on the album and appearing in their “No Sleep Till Brooklyn” video (a film that received insane airtime on the MTV network). This and “Fight For The Right To Party” were amazingly creative clips and the latter song became an accidental anthem that was always a hit at anyone’s party.

Yauch was born in Brooklyn in 1964 and attended Edward R. Murrow High School in Midwood, Brooklyn. He would form The Beastie Boys during these years. The Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame back in April 2012 and are the third Rap group to receive this honor. He is survived by his wife Dechen Wangdu and their daughter. On behalf of the PiercingMetal site, I send condolences to his family, friends, band mates and worldwide fans. Thanks for the music Adam, you really inspired a lot of people to work harder at their ideas. May you Rest in Peace.
