The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Inductees For 2014 Are….

May I have the envelope please? No? Well, I tried. Anyway, it was only a few weeks ago when I blogged about the Nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 2014 Induction ceremony. Its my third year offering up views about the nominees and the process along with some of the glaring omissions and earlier today the inductees were officially announced.

Ladies and Gentlemen may I present to you the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees: KISS, Nirvana, Peter Gabriel, Daryl Hall and John Oates, Cat Stevens, Linda Ronstadt, The E Street Band, Brian Epstein and Andrew Loog Oldham. Congratulations to the winners. Now let’s reflect on this a little bit.

Am I reading this correctly? KISS?!!!! KISS!!!! Wow, Hell hath indeed frozen over because I swore that I would never see my favorite band in the Rock Hall because they have made it clear that they would never let them in if they could keep this the case. Maybe Eddie Trunk strong armed them based on his rants on “That Metal Show” and elsewhere or maybe it was the fans that have been lobbying for their inclusion over and over since the bands eligibility of 1999. I think the outcries of “The Rock and Roll Hall of Shame” going across all the Social Networks had some people over there shaking just a little bit. Whatever the case may be I am very glad to see this band going in and not only because they’re my favorite band (which matters also just a little hehehe) but because of what they did for the Rock Show Spectacle. Come on, you’ve seen clips I am sure and its second to none in terms of what they do. Of course with KISS being inducted I will have less to raise on my own soapbox but I can live with that. I will not even get too deep into Nirvana being inducted because the minute I saw them listed as a nominee I knew they would go in. Too many people behind the important screens for Nirvana to be overlooked even if they should be going in years from now as opposed to now. Great to see Peter Gabriel going in for his solo work because he deserves it and so do Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens and the rest. I was glad to see the E-Street band being honored because they have been the boom behind the Boss for so long they should have the lighters lit for them in this fashion.

On the omissions I’m rather shocked that both Deep Purple and Yes who were nominees did not get in because their time is long overdue. Purple is almost as important to Rock as bands like Zeppelin and Yes are founding fathers of the Progressive Rock sound so they should have been given the nod and gone in. Now I will probably piss off some people by saying that I am glad that no Rap artists made the Hall this year (we had both L.L. Cool J and NWA on the nomination list this year). I don’t say this with offense or to slight their accomplishments but this is the Rock Hall and I think it really needs to stand by this and focus. That’s all I can really say about it because I am still really shocked that KISS is actually going in. I’ve had to read this a couple of times to convince myself that my mind was not playing tricks on me. The ceremony will be held in April at the Barclay’s Center and I am sure that we shall see a lot of highlights being broadcast somewhere. I don’t expect a jam with the original KISS lineup though since Gene has spoken out about that a few times already but they would certainly have to get up at the podium to accept the award if they show up. I hope they do. What do you readers think?
