Even though I am super stoked about the news I will definitely say “It’s About Time Nightwish!!!”. So for those who have been living under a rock, the band has just announced that not only has Floor Jansen been named as their full time lead singer but also that Troy Donockley and his ullieann pipes will become part of the group. The stuff in italics is copied directly from the Official Nightwish Page.

“Ms. Floor Jansen is a keeper. Also, we will be a six-piece band from now on, as Mr. Troy Donockley (uilleann pipes, low whistles, vocals) will become a full-time member of NIGHTWISH. Originally we were going to wait until 2014 to make a decision about the future line-up of the band, but the past year has clearly shown us that Floor and Troy are perfect matching pieces to our puzzle, and we are really grateful of the bond that has grown between all of us. We love you guys”.

Commented vocalist Floor Jansen: “Words cannot describe what I feel! This union is beyond everything and I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to continue this amazing journey with my new brothers! Once I had a dream…and this is it!!!”

Piper/whistleman, added vocalist Troy Donockley: “`Imaginaerum World Tour´was a revelation to me and in that time, I became aware of a growing unity and then, finally, a transcendence of all the usual nonsense that affects bands. A beautiful process. And since the idea, the musical dream that is NIGHTWISH has been a part of me since before I was born, I am delighted to officially sail into uncharted waters with my brothers and sister. Wondrous scenes Ahoy! “

So as a fan of the band for many years now I think this is awesome news and am glad that they made this decision even though it took a little over a year to make it. Fans might remember that the whole Anette Olzon firing debacle went down in September 2012 and Floor had been “filling in” since that time and going over like gangbusters. I’ve also had a bit of an appreciation for what Floor is capable of and have been listening to her since After Forever released “Invisible Circles”. What do you readers think of the whole big reveal? Let’s get some discussion going on this for sure.  All photos in this post are credited to our good friend Samuel Jyhla who attended the Tuska Festival a few months ago. New readers might be amused to learn that it was Nightwish that was a catalyst in my even becoming a music scribe in the first place. I reflected on that little bit of history HERE
