Marvel Comics First Issues Coming In September 2016

Happy September once again my dear readers. It’s time for the Marvel Comics side of my monthly announcements and this month there aren’t really a whole lot of new launching titles outside of a couple of annuals and a single Captain America one-shot. Let’s take a look. As always the art and premise comes from their press resources and I will return at the close with some thoughts.

"Captain America: Serpents Unite" #1
“Captain America: Serpents Unite” #1

CAPTAIN AMERICA: SERPENTS UNITE! #1: Slithering super villains, it’s a syndicate of snake-themed sinners! The sinister Sidewinder amasses an army of ophidian offenders — including Cottonmouth, Diamondback and Princess Python — for his mercenary Serpent Society! In Captain America’s first brush with the team, he’ll land in the arms of Anaconda! But whose side will he take when the Society targets M.O.D.O.K. for death? Look back at the Society’s original incarnation as Cap and the Falcon contend with the Serpent Squad! Collecting CAPTAIN AMERICA (1968) #163, #310, #313 and #315.

DOCTOR STRANGE ANNUAL #1: Clea comes back into Doctor Strange’s life as he’s picking up the pieces from the worst beating he’s ever taken. Clea’s going to make that battle look like a walk in the park. Also in this issue… WHO ARE THE SORCERERS SUPREME?!

KATHRYN IMMONEN & ROBBIE THOMPSON (W) • LEONARDO ROMERO (A); Cover by W. Scott Forbes

"Extraordinary X-Men Annual" #1

EXTRAORDINARY X-MEN ANNUAL #1: NEW STORY ARC STARTS NOW! When the Terrigen Cloud threatens to wash over a prison and the warden refuses to protect its mutant inmates, the Extraordinary X-Men take matters into their own hands…and stage a PRISON BREAK!
And when Moon Girl takes it upon herself to solve the Terrigen crisis, she may just find an unlikely ally…

OLLIE MASTERS & BRANDON MONTCLARE (W); CARLO BARBERI & ROSI KAMPE (A)

PiercingMetal Thoughts: My monthly Marvel Comics pile has lessened with the “Civil War II” stuff since it just didn’t do it for me. It happens. I do still pick up the first issues and especially when its an annual edition so I will be grabbing all three of these. The Captain America title is something special since its a lot of storytelling by the late great Mark Gruenwald who used to write Cap for a number of years and sadly passed away 20 years ago this past August. What do you readers think of this smattering of titles? Will you be adding them to your pull list? Let me know in the comments section below.
