With great levels of musical sadness I must share the news that the legendary bassist of the band Cream, Mr. Jack Bruce has passed away at age 71. The news broke earlier today and has really hit the music scene hard.
To say that Jack Bruce was an influential musician to scores of bassists and even guitarists would be an understatement. Over the years of my own musical interests, I found the contributions that Cream gave to the world super inspiring and just solid not only in terms of the drumming of Ginger Baker but with the powerful and smooth backbone that was the bass work of Mr. Bruce. He truly could drive the music forward with his skills. In the end it would be liver disease that took him from us and we wish the deepest of condolences to his family, band mates from over the years and his wordl wide fans. Thanks for the music Mr. Bruce, clearly Johnny Winter now has the ultimate bass player jamming with him in that great gig in the sky.
