Fans of the Finnish Melancholy Rock superstars of HIM are going to love the chance to get an advance listen to their latest work with the single “Heartkiller” which comes from their soon to be released album “Screamworks: Love In Theory and Practice”. It will arrive care of their longtime label Sire/Reprise Records. I gave the tune a few spins and wanted to share my thoughts about it with you all since I’ve been a HIM fan since around 2003.

Right off the bat the listener finds an energetic track and a faster paced groove which is a little bit different from the preceding studio work on “Venus Doom”. “Heartkiller” keeps true to the HIM premise of singing about heartbreak, sadness and the like and this one appears to focus on a relationship that has ended with less than good results. Ville seems to be citing his lack of concern for the emotional process and is trying to move on. I could be wrong though. I loved the drive of this one and despite enjoying the “Venus Doom” stuff, feel that HIM also works as a melodic and hard rocking band. It’s safe to say that I am very curious about the full on album and cannot wait to hear it. Sadly, we still have to wait a couple of more months until SWLITAP” comes out but at least you have this killer tune to hold you over until that time. The digital single has a cool bit of cover art as well so I suggest downloading it immediately and requesting it on stations to build up some buzz.
