DC Comics 1st Look: Jared Leto as The Joker in “Suicide Squad”

Sigh. So in celebration of the 75th Anniversary of The Joker, DC Comics has released the first official image of Jared Leto as The Joker. The Clown Prince Of Crime will be one of the many villains in the 2016 film release “Suicide Squad” which also stars Will Smith as Deadshot and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Take a look below and let me know what you think. Sigh.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: I am not trying to crap on any of the DC Cinematic Universe stuff but why oh why do they seem to be going to great lengths to stymie and halt the interest and excitement in their diehard fan base. To me this looks like some drug-addicted Marilyn Manson Horror Punk wannabee and not the insane Clown Prince that has vexed The Batman for so many years. Leave a close example to his classic design in there. The purple suit of some kind or even a leather jacket. There was a stylish class behind The Joker’s mania in some sense. Oh yeah and what the hell is he doing in the Suicide Squad in the first place? Maybe I am behind in the title but I don’t remember him being a part of the book. Deadshot yes, and from the earliest renditions I know about and Harley Quinn from the New 52 run but he didn’t need to be in this team at all. Don’t even get me started on the ridiculous tattoos. Perhaps this version of The Joker is also in an incomprehensible Metalcore band as well. IMHO Warner Brothers seems to be trying to catch up with Marvel by making their Cinematic Universe appear out of nowhere without any buildup. I am not sure that will work but I think making sense of the Batman and Superman relationship and the forthcoming Justice League dynamic is of far more importance than giving us a team of Super-Villains that most will have no idea about all working together for the common good.

I wonder what you readers think about this so please let me know in the comments section because I cannot wait to hear what you all think as well. The official film Wiki is linked below which will offer up some casting and production notes along with an early premise. I really enjoy the Suicide Squad comic series and I will hate if they destroy this on film. So far its worked on the occasional interactions with “Arrow” (the television series) but these universes do not speak to each other at the end of the day.
