Congratulations to KISS on being America’s #1 Gold Record Award Winning Group Of All Time

Hey there readers, I wanted to take a couple of minutes out of your day to share a cool piece of press news that I received yesterday at the PiercingMetal Command HQ. It came from those fine folks at Universal Music who we have worked with a great deal over the years and they maintain the KISS catalog which is right up our alley with the band being one of our most favorite things. According to the announcement, KISS has achieved the status of being the #1 Gold Record Award Winning Group of All Time. I’ll let you read the full statement below and then I will surely come back to raise a glass of wine, coffee, beer (depending on your time zone and preference). Here we go.

The Press Release:
KISS – AMERICA’S #1 GOLD RECORD AWARD WINNING GROUP OF ALL TIME: KISS (Rock And Roll Hall of Fame), now celebrating its 40th anniversary, has earned more Gold Album Record Awards than any American band in the history of The Recording Industry Association of America’s (RIAA’s) Gold & Platinum Awards certifications. In the last 41 years, KISS has earned 30 Gold albums (26 KISS albums + 4 Solo Albums that were all released simultaneously — a feat never before achieved by any band.) KISS has 14 Platinum albums, with three albums being multi-Platinum.

“Congratulations to KISS – the new Gold standard for albums by American bands,” said Cary Sherman, Chairman & CEO, RIAA. “What an extraordinary achievement for an enduring band. Forty years later and the band is still rocking. Congratulations to KISS on their Gold album milestone and continued success.”

KISS remains one of the most influential bands in the history of rock and roll. Decades of record-breaking tours around the globe have included high-profile appearances at Super Bowl XXXIII, the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, the Rockin’ The Corps concert dedicated to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, special guest appearance on the 2009 American Idol finale that boasted 30 million viewers and a 2010 Dr. Pepper Super Bowl commercial and advertising campaign in support of their Hottest Show On Earth tour.

Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, with longtime members guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer, are stronger than ever with a legacy that continues to grow, generation after generation. Their last album, Monster, proved that they are still at the top of their game with impressive sales and topping the charts worldwide debuting at No. 3 in the U.S. on the Billboard 200 best-selling albums chart and Top 10 in twenty other countries. The unparalleled devotion and loyalty of the KISS Army to the “Hottest Band in the World” is a striking testament to the band’s unbreakable bond with its fans.

KISS is currently celebrating two other major milestones, their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April of 2014, as well as the band’s 40th Anniversary. KISS 40, an album celebrating 40 years of Rock ‘N Roll is available now.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: I’m pretty sure that I have worn my love of all things KISS and stuff that is KISS related on my sleeve in the twelve plus years of being a music journalist in addition to all those years before in my world of listening to their tunes. I’ve collected their albums on vinyl, then on CD and purchased all the video tapes which eventually became DVD’s and I guess will soon be Blu-rays (if I am lucky enough). I’ve got boxes of action figures and buttons and patches and even wore their makeup as a young lad around the Halloween time so this is a band that has been very, very important to my life. Reaching this kind of status is super awesome and let’s face it, there are a lot of fantastic albums in the early KISS catalog that have withstood the test of time. The full original lineup has not been in place for over a decade now and while it drives some legacy fans crazy I am still behind them and attending shows since its something that I greatly enjoy. Congratulations on this achievement KISS, clearly you have been doing something right in the eyes of the listeners for a very long time and this award is greatly deserved. Thank you for being a band that has continually given me a smile even when the day might have been a frustrating one and especially for the concerts that still blow my mind with their display. While I am not dealing with numbers that some of my friends have, I think that I have seen KISS in concert about 20 times over the years. The first time was 1980 with the “Dynasty” tour at MSG. My first concert also but that is a story for another blog I guess. As a music scribe I’ve reviewed a number of the catalog releases and reported on the band with tours and such and should you be interested in them just click on THIS LINK as it will bring you to all content tagged “KISS”. Readers are welcome to speak on this milestone is the career of KISS care of the box below so bring it on but please keep it to topic.

  1. I think the tern legacy fans is incorrect. That would imply one only liked the classic lineup, which for many fans is not true. I followed every lineup until they decided to copy themselves and resort to mostalgia, dressing new members like classic members. I will try yo come up with a more fitting label for those who refuse to follow a lineup that mimics a former lineup.
