“From Wishes To Eternity” [DVD] by Nightwish

Artist: Nightwish
Title: “From Wishes To Eternity”
Label: MSI Music Corp.
Release Date: 3/13/2000
Genre: Operatic Power Metal
Rating: 10/10

I was lucky enough to see this DVD in one of my very favorite Metal CD Music Stores out in New Jersey. You see, I had heard Nightwish at a Friends place where some music had been downloaded. Yes, I know this is bad, but I had nothing to do with it. Anyway, I instantly fell in love with what I was hearing and of course when I realized that this band was from Finland I knew I could count on never ever getting to see them play live in my area. As a fan of live video DVD’s I enjoyed this one a little more than others as it had more of a feel of being at the concert. One could appreciate the lighting and pyrotechnics as well as the full stage setup that they use. There were frequent pans from the back sections as well as many great close ups of the beautiful Tarja and her bandmates (Tuomas, Jukka, Emppu and Marco …..keyboards, drums, guitar and bass respectively).

“A Night Of Triumph Live” by Triumph

Artist: Triumph
Title: “A Night Of Triumph”
Label: TML Entertainment
Release Date: 05/2004
Genre: Hard Rock
Rating: 8/10

In the event you never realized it. Canada not only provided us with the Masters Of Prog Rock RUSH, but they are also at the fore of bringing us the music of Triumph. This amazing three-piece group ended their career far too early if you ask me. There was never a farewell or retirement tour of any kind. Such things were not as common place as they are today. One day they were very simply gone. The music of Triumph leaned more to the hard rock/metal side at times more so than that of progressive bands. The songs were almost always very easy to appreciate and they did get a sufficient amount of airplay as in their heyday. I remembered that classic rock stations would play more of this type of music than one would expect to hear today. This DVD entitled “A Night Of Triumph” showcases one of the bands last albums in performance before their seemed retirement. That album and tour was for the “Sport Of Kings” record.

“The Sting (Live At The Key Club)” by W.A.S.P.

Artist: W.A.S.P.
Title: “The Sting”
Label: EMI Music
Release Date: ?/2002
Genre: Heavy Metal
Rating: 8/10

I love W.A.S.P. . It’s that simply written in my book. When it came down to explosive showmanship and steady delivery of heavy music or catchy tunes my Friends and I could always count on Blackie Lawless & Company.

This DVD was filmed at the Key Club in Los Angeles, California. Joining Blackie onstage is Chris Holmes on guitar, Mike Duda on bass & Stet Howland on drums. Chris is a mainstay from the first album. Mike and Stet from around “K.F.D.” (though Stet had also done some drumming s since parts of “Kill, Fuck, Die”, and tracks on “The Crimson Idol”. I like his style a lot, solid and heavy with great double kick drums when necessary. I prefer him to Steve Reilly (who I still thought did a fine job under the material W.A.S.P. did at the time).
