The rumors about this have been circulating for a few weeks but seemed to take a backseat once the hoopla surrounding the Guns ‘N Roses “Not In Your Lifetime” reunion tour started to pick up steam and now the time for speculation and whispers are over. Axl Rose will join ACDC and complete their “Rock Or Bust” tour. Check out the full press release that just hit the Metal Command HQ.
The Press Release:
“AC/DC’S ROCK OR BUST WORLD TOUR RESUMES WITH AXL ROSE ON VOCALS”
“AC/DC band members would like to thank Brian Johnson for his contributions and dedication to the band throughout the years. We wish him all the best with his hearing issues and future ventures. As much as we want this tour to end as it started, we understand, respect and support Brian’s decision to stop touring and save his hearing. We are dedicated to fulfilling the remainder of our touring commitments to everyone that has supported us over the years, and are fortunate that Axl Rose has kindly offered his support to help us fulfill this commitment.”

PiercingMetal Thoughts: So there you have it….”Axl/DC” I am not really sure what to say about it all because the two singers have very distinct voices and the gravelly scream of Brian Johnson is nothing like the register of Axl Rose if you compare them as vocalists side by side. The news about Brian’s hearing didn’t actually shock me since I know how loud these shows can get and especially after so many decades at it. I was hoping against hope that something could have been worked out with Johnson and his hearing because these days there are so many technical things that can be done. Even if Brian had to wear insulated headphones to avoid the sonic barrage is better than him not continuing the tour and finalizing his career with the mighty ACDC. Many fans are saying that ACDC should head down the retirement path as well now that Johnson seems to be officially out of the group and who knows, that might still happen after these committed dates are completed. Axl signing on for the task seems to be the smartest business move because he is a known quantity as opposed to more of an unknown voice that can handle the job and sound exactly like Brian. I think it would have been great to find Marc Storace of Krokus or Joel O’Keefe from Airbourne. The latter is actually also an Australian and speaking of residents of Oz, perhaps the legendary Jimmy Barnes could have helped complete the shows. His is one of Australia’s biggest singers and it would allow them to close the chapter on the band with one of their countrymen. The one good thing I guess we can take from this is that the recent video clips of GNR showcase an Axl that has a very strong voice from the early reunion shows. Perhaps ACDC will be added to the GNR tour as the direct support act because that would make perfect sense to me. What do you think about this development?
